it would cause a significant disruption in the coin world?
There have been some stories here over the years... There has to be AT LEAST ONE good story yet to be told...

No, I won't tell you where I hide my 64-D Peace Dollar!
I think if my grandfather's twelve 1933 double eagles were to come out of hiding, that might raise an eyebrow.
The 1910 VDB has not been brought up lately.

I wish I could remember where I hid that small purse filled with 1854-S $5 gold pieces hat I bought at a yard sale some time ago from a person who found it in a abandoned storage locker once rented by someone that cleaned out their grandmas attic. Oh wait, or is that the Fairmont hoard I'm thinking of?
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
My paisan, Joey Bananas, minted Omega counterfeits using Mexico 50 peso coins as the blanks.
yes. Not sharing until the coin gets out into the public though
Well, this is not actually secret, but may not be known to all here present and I think it's so very profound, entertaining, and timely that I will reprint with all due respect to the original author: BONGO BONGO
BONGO MAYBE NOT SURPRISED THAT OLD COIN IS LIKE ANY OTHER LIMITED NON ESSENTIAL COMMODITY AND SUBJECT TO THE WHIMS OF TASTE AND MARKET.
PUT THE COIN IN BOOK AND ENJOY IT.
IF IT IS WORTH MORE WHEN YOU COME TO SELL IT, WELL DONE
IF NOT, THEN YOU HAVE HAD ENJOYMENT OUT OF IT.
REMEMBER THAT OLD COIN IS ONLY WORTH FEW DOLLARS IN PHYSICAL MATERIAL VALUE - THIS IS WHY VALUE IS AN ESOTERIC CONCEPT IN MANY WAYS AND IT MAY BE VULGAR TO ASSIGN ANY MONETARY VALUE TO OLD COIN UNLESS YOU ARE A RUSSIAN OLIGARCH OR CHINESE SHODDY GOODS FACTORY OWNER
Bongo speak truth
Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.
periodically on the forum, I read something about that poster Bongo Bongo, an open forum, a crazy night, and maybe a Lincoln or Cadillac.
What is all that about? I would truly appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this, thanks!
Going down a soggy wet road on bald retreads. Or something like that
I hope one day BONGO BONGO. Returns here to spread his wisdom
Martin
Ahhh fond memories
BONGO BONGO lives on.
@BONGOBONGO is a real forum member?
Buy the holder, not the coin?
I would tell but then my coins might try to sue me for libel for posting it here.
Was this a serious question
?
Ah the mysteries yet to be solved and discoveries to be made... Treasures exist out there.... Cheers, RickO
Yes, if banned for 15 years counts as being a forum member
The true story of "John and Mary" is coming out soon.
The Mysterious Egyptian Magic Coin

Coins on Television
User profile says last appearance was December 2005. I guess 15 years will be over soon...
Or did you mean banned 15 years ago?
What was the crime, inquiring minds want to know...
Steel wool is too harsh for brightening coins. Use baking soda and a toothbrush for a more dazzling finish.
2007...
right, 2007. So, what's the story, Wishbone?
These are not the Droids you're looking for.
Move along.

Not a big story, but the finest known national bank note of a specific bank of where there was only one note known (and is crappy) has surfaced. It was found by a person I know at a flea market mixed in with some world notes. Most likely will be going to auction in near future ? Dont ask, not my place to give specifics
The 2 rolls of $20 double eagles, no never heard no stories
This is a never-before told story about coins that, if true, would explain a lot...
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, adapted by Moursund
In the light of the moon, a little egg lay on a leaf.
One Sunday morning, the warm sun came up and pop! – out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.
He started to look for some food.
On Monday he ate through one half disme. But he was still hungry.
On Tuesday, he ate through two lincoln cents, but he was still hungry.
On Wednesday, he ate through three 3-cent nickels, but he was still hungry.
On Thursday, he ate through four large cents, but he was still hungry.
On Friday, he ate through five barber halves, but he was still hungry.
On Saturday he ate through one piece of eight, one morgan dollar, one seated quarter, one bust half, one indian head cent, one ike dollar, one peace dollar, one mercury dime, one walking liberty half, and one modern clad piece of junk. That night he had a stomachache!
The next day was Sunday again. The caterpillar ate through one nice green back, and after that he felt much better.
Now he wasn’t hungry anymore, and he wasn’t a little caterpillar anymore. He was a big, fat caterpillar.
He built a small house around himself, called a Cocoon, And he stayed inside for more than two weeks.
Then he nibbled a hole in the cocoon, pushed his way out, and...
he was a beautiful butterfly.
Eventually @lordmarcovan collected all of the coins that had holes eaten through them.
My shameful coin story:
Just before the millennium, I purchased a lovely, ornate Victorian love token done on a Seated dime, via eBay. The envelope arrived just as I was leaving for work, so I took the coin to work with me, to open and examine there.
In those days in my work as a hotel bellman, the only downtime I got was on my smoke breaks. So I examined my coin out behind the building while poisoning myself, then slid the coin in its flip into the cellophane of my cigarette pack (if you’ve ever been a smoker, you know about this sort of thing).
Next smoke break, I finished the last ciggie in the pack and discarded it in the trash.
Yep, coin and all.
Later, to my horror, I realized my mistake, and dashed back to that trash can to dig, but found it had been emptied, and the trash truck had emptied the big compactor.
So sometime in the year 2735, future archaeologists (probably in a submarine since Saint Simons Island will be underwater by then), will be excavating layers of a 1999 landfill and discover an ornately engraved dime from the 1870s. They will be perplexed, and research papers will be written.
Moral of the story: don’t smoke, kiddies. It makes you stupid.
I heard a cringeworthy story about a dealer of my acquaintance who had an unfortunate slip of the scissors when removing a rare note from a currency slab…
In another coin shop where I briefly helped out, the dealer would not let me empty the wastebasket by his desk. Every day at closing, he would upend the wastebasket onto the top of his desk and pick through the trash, piece by piece, until he was satisfied no coins were mixed in.
In a parallel to my “love token in the cigarette pack” story above, it seems a $5 Indian had once gone AWOL from his desk and been lost in the trash.
3 times in the past I have mentioned a cryptic message in other posts related to a 'story' that appears here on occasion and is dismissed by the Literati. Amwldcoin above mentioned it.
This is buried deeply enough in the thread I should emerge again without stress or question . . . . . .

Shhhh….don’t tell anyone- 1804 dollars are overgraded
