Is the average Joe collector coin market hot? If this show is any indicator it is red hot! This is a 75 dealer show that was held in a new location, a banquet hall in Madison Heights, Michigan on Sunday February 20, 2022. There was a little bit of everything at this show.

I arrived a bit after noon to find the large parking lot at least 90% full. This is the first show I have attended in two years. My objective was to sell some minor items that had just been sitting around. I was told that when the show opened at 10AM there was a line of several hundred people waiting to get in.

I quickly disposed of everything I had to sell at exactly what i thought they would bring. When selling low price material like this my objective is to turn it into cash with the least possible effort and expense possible.

.900 fine US was very easy to sell. Silver foreign (nothing rare or exciting) took more effort and had to be heavily discounted below melt. I even managed to sell some bronze Franklin Mint Christmas/Peace medals. They didn't bring much but I was happy to be rid of them. I was also able to sell all my Canadian change from the past two years (virtually all of it came to me from Coinstar machine reject slots).

The only negative was the severe overcrowding. The rather narrow aisles were packed with people and it was obvious that business was being done.

If you are thinking about doing a thinning of your collection now is the time.

All glory is fleeting.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......

My wife’s relatives used to make the trek from Toledo to Hamtramck to get the kielbasa (and other delicacies) for the holidays, but I digress.

Thanks for the show report. Interesting that foreign silver needed to be heavily discounted below melt in this market. It seems to get gobbled up pretty quickly at melt when posted on the dark side BST. But of course you were selling to knowledgeable dealers.

If the foreign silver had been from more popular countries it would probably have done much better.

Yeah, even though you can find a show nearly every weekend, this one was particularly well attended. Agree that space was tight and I got there around 10:30 and found myself parking at the far reaches of the lot. The April Michigan State show in Warren will feel like we are back to near normal!

Now you have me curious. What's the history behind that coin club? I have a friend with a Polish wife and they do collect Polish coins!
