While the colors on the reverse are phenomenal this one is circulated, and with the wear on it either a low AU or an XF.
To top it off the coin has some pvc on the observe and no luster on that side.
I have seen circulated toned examples slabbed go up to the range this one sold for, but I think with all the problems and lower grade and raw, this buyer overpaid imo.

It makes no sense. Shill activity? Someone put in a bid around $155 then a sucker put in a bid just over that. A lot of these get returned or relisted. Uncertified, speculative, rare for common raw coins to go high like that legitimately.
It is an ugly one but the two top bidders aren't new to buying and made the active decision to bid it up like that.
Terrible looking coin, in my opinion. Different strokes...

I'm not surprised. On eBay, colorfully toned coins go for a pretty good premium no matter how ugly looking.

That obverse is hideous and I’d never buy that coin, but unlike so many of the bad sellers we see, this one didn’t really make any outlandish claims about the coin. They showed some photos and some buyers bid it to a stupid amount. Assuming no shill or other untoward activity, the buyers here have no one to blame but themselves

I know the seller (no it isn’t me), and I do not think he would shill bid at all. It’s simply an ugly coin that two bidiots bid into the stratosphere.
I'm guessing the owner will get it slabbed and request that it be shown with the reverse side facing up.

The buyer over paid and went down the rabbit hole chasing color on a Peace Dollar. I have no issues with the transaction as the seller provided quality phots, and does not have eBay store full of AT coins. I do agree that calling the coin "Monster Toned is over hyped.
Maybe they can put the obverse in body bag. An opaque body bag.
