I am assuming the first picture is of your coin, the TV is for comparison... If that is correct, then yes, it looks like a D/D. Cheers, RickO

I've only been collecting for a couple years. I'm thinking of sending this in to PCGS once i can get another couple coins to send in.

What do you guys think the grade would be?

For what it's worth, it doesn't look like a match. The mintmark position on your piece is higher than the PCGS piece.

Quite a few of the '46 D/D RPMs look very similar. No clue why FS chose the ones they did- there are much nicer RPMs for the date/mm.

I can't imagine it's worth the price of submission.

Well if it's D/D or not, it only cost $2 in the junk silver bin. They have 10 ounce bars for $300, good deal? But i have to pay 9% tax so around 330.

It definitely looks like a D/D RPM, (I would say it undoubtedly IS) but based on CoinFacts images and variety vista images I do not see it as a Cherry Picker 501,502, or 503. The placement of the mint mark in relation to the base of the torch seems too different. Looking closely at the attributed examples I see a few possible die markers that might help you identify. On CoinFacts the 501 has what looks to be die clash evidence in the lettering of “...US UNUM” like the diagonal slant through the S of Pluribus, a die scratch in Roosies nostril, and heavy die polish lines under “...ED STATES”
    501 markers I see

Your coin could possibly be an earlier die stage. Either way I would personally keep such a find, even if it’s not a 501.

You have a Great eye for variety hunting.

Thanks Aspie for the great explanation! I'm still so new, i've been just album filling for the past 2 years. Now i'm starting to look for varieties. Maybe this is a new one! I'm gonna be rich! j/k

A fun place to variety hunt is ebay, depending on photos it can be a blast! Sometimes when bored I search “pcgs” along with one of the abbreviations “DDO, DDR, RPM, 901, 401” and find new varieties to see and search out. Then I start looking through listings to identify varieties I am less familiar with that are not attributed.
If you don’t already know about Variety Vista, it’s a wonderful resource for many different denominations and a plethora of different types of varieties. Missing detail varieties are a less known areas. Like the 1971 no S nickel, missing feathers on a Walking Liberty reverse, 3 leg Buffalo nickels, 2 feather Buffalo nickels, added S proof quarter super bird, added D on reverse of 1962 proof halves, re-engraved die proofs (and business strikes), also die clashes like Bugs Bunny Franklin halves.

    Best of luck hunting!

It may very well be a RPM but not the 501 that you show. Mintmarks have to be in exactly the same location as stated by @TheRegulator
