Interesting advice on when to end a coin auction.

Was at my local gun shop the other day and was talking with one of the guys I know there.
He mentioned that when selling on line, he lists to end on a Sat. night. He said it's the most likely time someone has been drinking and won't want to be outbid. He's had very good "luck" doing that.
I'm going to try that on my next few ebay listings!

The casinos use that same strategy!
Very interesting. I had some GC items that ended during the Super Bowl. They did ok, but I think may have done slightly better ending on a different week. The Saturday advice is interesting - I may try that on EBay. Would be interesting to gather enough data for statistical significance to see if the advice is valid.
I’ve posted several times how Friday, Saturday nights and Sunday afternoon are my favorite times for auctions to end. eBay gets wild and I have been rewarded with a number of great deals as a buyer. I guess the partying can help sellers and buyers. Some won’t be out bid and others give up or get distracted. 👍🏼

Ironically, the gun shops with indoor ranges are also busy on a Saturday night.
Must depend on what is being sold... Assault rifles vs Amish Farming tools, for example...
My logic was that Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights were best because everyone is likely to be home and available to bid. I'm listing some things tonight (first time on a Saturday), and I'll see how they do!
My favorite time to play live poker is on Saturday night in a casino that allows drinking at the table
Cool!
I just listed an auction on EBay to test it out :-)

The logic is there.... and as I reflect back on auctions I have participated in or observed, there could well be statistical data that could be gleaned to support it. Cheers, RickO
I’ve been known to overbid after a few libations - but I might argue those are also the first auctions to get returned because it doesn’t take 14 days to sober up...
Ok. There’s a lovely little item available. It’s Saturday night and I am in full sniper mode. Wish me luck I’ve been hunting for one for months at the right price. I keep missing out for this or that reason. Last week one was posted at a great price but this will be even better. I’ll know after midnight eastern.

There’s never a bad time to play poker in a So. Cal. casino.
So that guy is looking for drunk sniper snipers?
I wonder how often drunk snipers find significant problems with the coins they win once they've sobered up.
They probably find significant problems with the price they paid.
Celebrating 15 years of nary a drop. I see a number of things being booze free that are funny now. I’ve got my drunk coins as reminders.
Well off to coin central and prepare for a little hunting. 👍🏼

And that's when they find a problem with the coin they bought.
I've found over 18 yrs selling on ebay(not a large dealer by any means), that if selling a hot item then end it on Sat night after 8pm. If selling a soso item, end it on Sun night before 11pm. This truly matters for coins, at least among my followers and new buyers.

Well watched the auction and the price got to high. So went to looking again and found a new listing for buy it now and 20% less , same coin. To avoid embarrassment I’ll post a picture when it arrives. Like to think I can tell condition from a picture of the coin(kinda) and not a generic picture. It’s in a ngc slab, which is a comfort. PCGS, NGC ,ANACS or ICG. adds a degree of safety.
I’m also getting better at reading the sellers description and other details.
If this one works out I will have completed a graded set.
Haven’t had this happen before where I found a replacement that quickly. 👍🏼

Good on ya!
Whenever I am watching a coin ending on a Saturday, I always forget to bid 🤔 I wonder why
🍺 🥴
I was always told Sunday night is the best time to end an auction.

Did he mention how many cancellations he gets?
