Circulated Walkers

About a month ago during a snow storm I was going through some of my old coin albums from the early 60's and was looking at a Whitman Liberty Walking Halves 1916-1940 album. I went through some of my silver rolls and filled some holes. Had 13 Holes to go. Couple of weeks ago decided to go after the rest. I will admit that I had never looked at Walkers on Ebay. There are no shortages there. I would look for one date at a time to make it last longer. I'm down to the 19-D, 20-D & 20-S. I've grown to really like the eagle on the reverse and wish the MM were on the Obv.

It took me 10 years to finish my circ 50 piece commems set. I think you could put a nice set of Walkers together in a day and use 65 different sellers to do it.

I picked up a '47 double mint set a couple years back and both of the Walkers graded 65. They would have made excellent album coins yet I sold them pretty quickly. At the time and for a newbie the allure of profit/recharging the bank roll far outweighed the would have been appreciation.

The one that wasn't TV'd looked better - Damn noobs :D

The WLH is a favorite of mine... though I have not done the series. When I was a kid, they were still pocket change (sometimes, it was a lot of money then for a kid). I have a few though. A couple years ago I got one while roll searching... that was a thrill. Cheers, RickO

This is the only slabbed circulated walking liberty that I own and its an AU. I'm going to slowly build a 1930s set and ill have to buy a couple in AU grades maybe the 33 S in a nice XF.

I also have some raw lower grade UNC and AU coins. This is what I like to buy when I go to LCS or coin shows. The amount of walkers I have is now bordering on addiction lol. Especially since I'm now looking for a proof...

I completed my circulated set of Walkers on 10-18-1989. The first coin that I ever bought was a 1943 Walker for .60 cents back around 1969. I still have it, and all the other Walkers that I have ever bought, both certified and raw. I still buy them in my "junk" silver searches. Never get enough of those Walkers! <3

I like that you showed some of your recordkeeping. It looks like you went on a focused Walker buying spree in 1989. I did the same when I decided to collect seated Liberty halves 15 years ago. A mid-grade set of Walkers will likely be the next series I work on. I love the design and already have about a half dozen gems from the late '30s and '40s (that I've taken a beating on), as well as several rolls of junk silver Walkers and a few 38Ds.
