First time this has happened in 18 years of ebay shipments*******Problem Solved********

I received an empty envelope today without the 1814 Large Cent that was it should have contained. The envelope did not appear to have been opened and reclosed, so the item must have been left out by the originator of the envelope. My post office, when I ship a packing envelope even with a preprinted shipping label, always weighs the envelope. I wonder if most post offices do this every time and if the weight is then stored where it could be compared. Hope so.

No shipping receipt, no nothing? Perhaps a simple mistake by the shipper.

Seller contacted me to say it was a homemade envelope and that there might be a fold that the coin was in and sure enough it was. Great so again this has never happened to me.

... but it was too late, I had already shaved my head in despair...

Don't you fret now. There are plenty of things out there to despair about. Just think of all that shaving work you just did that will save you time later. You are all prepped for your upcoming despair.

You would have already shaved it today anyway, if this bothered you, you might even have hurt yourself.

So where was it at when looking at the photo? I'm guessing under that inside flap on the right side, or was it burried deeper?

Nearly to the bottom below the flap. The flap was the only thing indicating another layer. When I pulled it apart the coin was nearly at the bottom.

Interesting experience. Glad it was there.... One Christmas, a few years ago, our daughter sent us a package. We opened it on Christmas, removed the gift (forget what is was now) and then put the box aside with the others and all the wrapping. Later, I assembled it all and took it to the trash can outside. Later that day, our daughter called (she is in NC) and asked how we liked the silver ice cream spoons. What spoons? we asked. Said they were in the box with such and such. I went to the trash, and sure enough, in the bottom of a box, securely wrapped and taped, there were two engraved silver spoons. Pays to closely check packaging. Cheers, RickO

I remember money being thrown away by my nephews in the trash and burned one Christmas. Not a lot, but a lot to them.

Yeah, that's why it's better to give coins. Even after you burn them up, you can still spend them. 😳

With no coins, kids today don't get the fun of seeing how many quarters they can stack on their elbow and then catch in their hand without sending them flying...
