A VERY conservative grade by PCGS!!!!

WindycityWindycity Posts: 3,524 ✭✭✭✭✭

I think this might be a tad better than VG10.

A real problem for the owner as it isn't worth the cost of fooling around with having it reslabbed with the correct grade.

Wow... certainly appears to be a label (mechanical) error.... Let us know what you do with it.... Cheers, RickO

To all - Could this mean that there’s a VG coin somewhere in a 64 holder?
Or is the mistake likely limited to this single coin?

It was part of a bulk submission... all others were graded appropriately... MS64-66 but this one slipped through as a VG coin!!

It wouldn't cost him anything if he gave it to PCGS at a coin show they attended. I'm sure they would be more than happy to correct this obvious blunder. Personally, I would keep it as is as a neat conversation piece.

But it may cost a lot of money to get to such a show if he does not live in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

Sounds like what some people here would say about my first guesses on one of my future submission coins.
I first would think,"yeah, it's got to be a ms 64", then they would say, "No, maybe a vg 10?"

I wonder if they record the QA person for each slab that ships... and ask embarrassing questions when this sort of thing gets past.

since the cert page matches the cert, it reasons the coins were switched and this isn't just a lowly mech error unless they are doubled mechanical error in this case?

Can PCGS management use the serial number on the slab to see who was the finalizer that performed the quality control check on this coin after it was slabbed? :D

I'd be surprised if CAC would tarnish their brand by gold stickering that.

Might could use CAC stickers to completely cover the offensive and incorrect grade...

Would CAC put one gold sticker on for every grade it's undergraded B) Is there room on that slab for 15 stickers? It doesn't matter, it's all about the slab grade and the gold >:)

    Hey now...$14???
    Go ahead.

I'm not sure that CAC would want to tarnish their brand by saying this quarter is not lock for at least two grade bumps. How can they justify not stickering this one unless it is cleaned or PVC or something drastic? If they did not sticker it would be like saying that in their opinion this quarter is not F15 quality or better.

I once saw a pair of nickels with the inserts switched, one was an ms65 1903 liberty head nickel and the other
a matte proof 65 1916 nickel. Was that ever an unholy pair! I actually go t to see this

and a few years ago I saw a 1918/7-d graded vf20 by ncg and it was no better than a vg10 or vg08 IMO.
