Bait and switch is when I get you in a store on a item and sell you another item at a higher price not the same item at a higher price. Car dealers do it all the time you call and ask they say ya I have it you go in and all of a sudden it sold just before you got here. Then you walk out or you buy a different one is what they want you to do. Now that is bait and switch. They baited you in and switch you in to a different item.
Just semantics the same item at a higher price or a similar item at a higher price is not that much of a distinction. And no body is saying this was a bait and switch only that it has the same feeling.
Copy that, I think it could of been handled a little better. I myself would of tried to worked it. Especially if it was a nice coin. I hate to see people upset it happens and it’s worse if you go back and it’s not there.
I've noticed that some dealers will have the date and grade on a 2×2 and then when u ask for a price they'll look it up or quote you. The one dealer said it's just easier to do It this way they always cross out prices on it etc

Doing it that way is fine because they haven't put the price on the coin.

You do not necessarily have to trust Walmart(and most don't), but to do business with a private business owner trust is all important to success. I cannot think of a dealer I have dealt with in 60 years that would not have honored the price on the sticker and according to exactly how the conversation went would determine whether I ever reentered this shop. Words and their spoken tone are also important. Attitude being a close second. Just another opinion.

The idea that the seller has to check the Greysheet is bothersome. If the sticker price was an obvious error ($1000 sticker $100) I would be understanding and not put up a fuss. On the other hand if it was a 10% difference I would be disappointed if the dealer wouldn't honor the sticker price. But that one incident wouldn't end the relationship but my antenna would be up on the next deal.

I trust my local Walmart far more than some of the coin shops that I've been to.

Agree that it's not actually bait and switch. It's more like false advertising when a dealer displays a price and then tries to raise the price after someone expresses an interest in buying it.

No I would of just bought them if they where nice PL coins sometimes we get caught up in the moment and get fired up we all been there. Trust me I for one did it with a dam football I was out with the wife she wanted a new table and couches and all over the store said with perches receive a new football or basketball so we get up to pay I said I’ll take a football and I don’t even play sports. They tell me we are out so I say I’ll come back and pick it up when you have one in stock, they tell me no if we don’t have them you can’t have one. That lit the fire the wife looked at me gave me the look and I side cancel the order started walking out she started talking some since into me I turned back tossed my card on the counter and said take care of it and I walk out. Even till this day she will bring it up and I say it was the point that they did not want to do the right thing is what got me. But she got her dam couch and table and I never got my football. Lol
Some times lazy dealers just don’t change tags because they are just that to lazy or whatever and I see all kinds of tags with ABCXX that’s code for $123.00 or some other ways they do it. Maybe I deal with to many dealers to know how some of them think and work. But some of there old inventory will have old tags so I never think it’s going to be that price but know it’s going to be close.
As for them looking at a gray sheet most dealers do. Nothing wrong about that just a price guide prices go up and down every week. But really they go up and down every day.
I would go back and say I really want them coins give me a better price on both he will if not buy them anyway if you really like them that much, PL coins are nice to look at specially if true PL.
I’ve had this experience at least 5 times with dealers at shows. Dealer sticker prices the coins, or verbally tells me prices, then changes his mind and ups the price. Really leaves a bad taste in my mouth, and I vow to never do business with that person again. Might be worthy of filing a complaint online with the BBB to make the dealer understand what he did was wrong. BBB forces an answer from the business to your complaint, and maybe the dealer will get the hint to stop running poor business practices like this.
It's wrong and false advertisement. I would understand not wanting to constantly update stickers but then don't sticker them. A small sign stating prices revealed upon inquiry would be more appropriate.
or a sign that states "due to market volatility, prices on coins may vary from final sell price. please ask for price on any item that you are interested in"
One time at a coin show, I asked the dealer what his best price was for a coin he had for sale. He looked at it, and told me that if I didn't buy it at the price he had marked, he would re-list the coin at a higher price. I bought the coin .

I didn't see, but was it said what the increased price was?
We're probably looking at a $10-25 increase?
