What’s the procedure at PCGS when they receive a coin of this caliber raw? Is there any research or looking through previous TrueViews to see if it came in before?

The way the original owner(s) have preserved this coin is a tribute to old-time numismatists.
I would love to see some of the "other stuff" that you said was also exceptional.

I doubt there’s any such procedure. As nice and attractive as the coin appears to be, when you consider what the grading companies see on a weekly or even daily basis, this coin isn’t that big of a deal (to them).

Spoken by one who knows! A very thought provoking comment to keep in mind when one is selling.
Some guy sticking that coin in an old Wayte Raymond album is mindblowing in itself. But I guess there was a day where there were few options in the way to store coins. Likely was cameo at one time. And by what means was used without fingerprinting the coin when it was pushed into the album. The guy was mindful not to do that. And how does one come about acquiring such a coin. From a proof set? Difficult imagining whoever bought the coin raced home to stick that coin in an album. lol And since the coin looks over-toned/corroded from long term improper storage which ruined the contrast between the once deep mirrors and white frosty devices, why a 68 and a +? The coin hardly looks 1 1/2 points from perfection. More like a 66 IMO.

Hopefully and probably was the last coin placed in that section. Those slides can wreck havoc on Proofs.

Corroded?? Also the grading scale works independently for cameo and non-cameo designations, so I’m not sure how the lack of frost would hold back the grade in this instance.

Didnt take pics of them. There were several proof liberty nickels and I think some other small proof coins.
This is one great asset of the internet. Posted pixs of coinage such as this. In a sense we get to "own" them w/o forking over the funds which many of us cannot afford. So when we wish to view them we simply click away to view our "collection". Saves on SDB fees as well.

I’ve seen many amazing coins from the back room by dealers NFS. he didn’t tell you part of the story (possibly) A dealer brought out an amazing high grade Chain Cent he had slabbed just to watch me drool. Then he tells me it was in a pile of foreign junk he bought by the pound. You can afford to sit on it when you buy it like that.

It's a beautiful coin.
Also, gradeflation is alive and well.

Wonderful coin and creates a great ethics case study.
How do you mean?

I'll let you write the case study.... : )
Include in this case study - transactions at a garage sale, with coin dealers and with auction houses

No, I actually asked for them and he mentioned that they were sold quickly to another dealer.
