CAC pop report - how are plus grades treated?

A coin that might be a MS65+, how is that treated in the pop report? Are the plus coins lumped in the base grades for the report?

    CAC doesn’t recognize plus grades.

Plus coins reported on CF. The fact the coin is a plus decreases the number graded higher! This is a material factor that separates it. In addition a plus coin as it is recognized as PQ by PCGS is worth more and CF reflects this.

For pricing a CAC 64+ I would refer to the CAC CPG MV for 64 and most likely add extra due to its being a plus. CAC does not calculate premium for plus in their CPG number. The sticker simply represents in their view it’s an A or B coin.

As @shish correctly says, coins with “+” as part of the grade are included with the pop for the “whole” number grade by CAC in their pop report.

Separately, my “sense” is that CDN, which provides pricing data to CAC for the CAC Price Report, excludes auction sales data of coins with pluses. I believe the CAC Price Report therefore reflects a Retail estimate for coins with CAC stickers in just the “whole” grade. I have NOT read this anywhere, but looking at the CAC Price Report data leads me to this conclusion.

Seems like a good question for the CAC forum.

Seems like a good question for the CAC forum.

They have discussed it on CAC forum. Quote from CAC.

“We don't price + coins for a few reasons. Primarily, it is our belief that + coins are worth somewhere between the assigned grade and the next grade. CAC-approved or not.”

It seems that if coins can be assigned + in the grade, we should also have coins - where warranted - with a - assigned. Of course, that would be a real 'minus' in the market, so probably why it is not done. We should stand up for "truth in grading".... :D;) Ok... felling kind of >:) this morning.... Time for breakfast... ;) Cheers, RickO

Aren’t “minus coins” just coins that didn’t sticker? >:)

@P0CKETCHANGE... That is 'implied'... but certainly does not have the 'impact' of and officially imposed minus sign. Cheers, RickO
