Are these shield cent and blank planchet packages a mint product?

If so, did they come in some set?
If not were they made in HUGE quantities by some dealer somewhere

@davewesen ... I have neither seen them, nor heard of them.... However, I do lead a rather sheltered life... Others may know more. ;) Cheers, RickO

Yes. I believe they are given out as a souvenir when touring the Mints. I have some and the earliest dates back to 1994, IIRC.

It’s probably the answer to the question they always get: “Are there any free samples?”

Both Philadelphia and Denver package sets like that for giveaways almost every year recently

Interesting. I live in Colorado and have been to the mint several times taking out of town guests for the tour. Been doing it since 92-93 and they never gave out anything. And the tour ends up in the gift shop and they are selling not giving. Maybe I missed the giveaway days, it’s possible. I also think anything that the mint might give out would have packaging of some sort.
    We shall see 😉

I heard somewhere that something similar to these were given to schools for classroom teaching - story did not make sense to me, but has been a long time since I have been in school.

One came in a kid set that was released by the mint as well.
