Statue of Lincoln by August St. Gaudens at Auction

https://live.skinnerinc.com/lots/view/4-4RX2SX/augustus-saint-gaudens-american-1848-1907

I imagine at least a few members might be interested in checking this out. This particular statue was cast after his death. One neat fact that isn't mentioned in the description is the source of wear on Lincoln's hair: having been located at a school, the students passing by would pat the President's head!

A beautiful work of art..... and the information with it, regarding St. Gaudens widow having such detailed work with the castings is quite interesting. Cheers, RickO

Just finished the book “The Life and Works of Augustus Saint Gaudens”. Augusta, his wife, had to take over the completion of several works with the help of Artists that were on the payroll. I’m sure these small statues were made to help pay the bills after his death.

I believe I have seen one of those in the Art Institute of Chicago. It's an impressive piece when viewed in person.

    All glory is fleeting.
