1918 Walking Liberty

The price Range of these things are all lover the place. I want to get it graded but I'm scared it won't get above a fine. And it may not be worth it. Any thoughts?

Genuine for environmental damage.
But it may warrant XF details.
Definitely NOT worth sending in.
It looks corroded, especially the obverse…it won’t straight grade.
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Your half dollar would not be worth much over 90% silver trade value. Looking at PCGS coinfacts for this date/issue - the last sale price for a F15 certified example is $50. I do not think your half dollar would grade - the surfaces appear too porous. I would not recommend attempting to certify the coin.
It's been sitting in a safe years before it went in it didn't look like that. What would be considered environmental damage?
Well thank you I appreciate the help
What else is kept in that safe?
If it looked normal years ago, and now looks like this, there could be moisture and gaseous corrosive fumes that have reacted with the coin. Hopefully you don’t have a lot of valuables in there.
The obverse also looks like it was scraped or rubbed across something abrasive, more telling on the rim.
That I couldn't tell you. It was give to a family member and he kept it in his safe and said it didn't look like that putting it in and I told him I would give him double face value for it..
The silver content alone is worth over $9.
Well. Looks like I made atleast $8 profit then for $1
Was it a Gun Safe? Solvent and gun oils plus the addition of storing ammo could have corrosive effects on coins.
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Actually I don't know I k own he does have a few guns he has to keep in a safe bc of his kids but I don't know if he had this in that safe
The safe has an environment too. This one damaged the coin. I had a safe that trapped moisture and mold had started to grow. Agree with @Steven59 , oils n' ammo could be a corrosive combo.
Ok thanks got it. But from my understanding Silver don't corrode is so I don't know. But thanks for the help
When you take pictures, please take them out of the 2X2 first.
This way they are too distorted to see clearly

Yes, by not paying a fair price for it.

@Gettingintocoins.... Actually, silver DOES corrode... it is gold that does not. Silver is very reactive, especially with sulfur/sulfide compounds.... That is why there are so many tarnished coins and other silver items such as tableware.
Your WLH has been severely affected by an unfavorable environment. Not worth submitting. Cheers, RickO
The fact that you would even consider sending that coin in for slabbing tells me that you need to step back and learn a lot more about grading and detecting damage before sending in anything.
I have extra sulphur content in my body and any silver chain/bracelet etc. worn, gets tarnished overnight.
Also have severe reaction to any sulpha medication and could not stomach brandy/cognac or wine during my drinking day because of added sulphates. Never realized all this till the silver jewelry worn by me started to tone and thus got the explanation to other aspects.

Getting into coins
Possibly have your coins screened by a knowledgeable submitter before you choose to send them to a grader. It'll save you and the TPG a lot of aggravation.
Obviously you can't read well. Yes I am new to this and I am trying to learn it. And rude comments don't help at all. Thanks anyway
Actually I didn't know what it was or would be worth and he didn't either so me making an offer and him taking the offer is a fair trade... So in my book its a fair price. Despite what you may think or say
Well I do agree. My thing is I am new to this and trying to learn. So asking questions is the only way to get answers. Thanks for your help much appreciated
for a $10 coin, no harm and no foul. I hope if you had bought hundreds of dollars of stuff from a family member, and found out it was worth many times what you paid for it, you would "split the profit".
There is nothing rude about my comment. This is sixty years of collecting experience speaking. Ignore it if you wish.
Actually a lot of my family and I are really close and if something like that happened I would
Getting into coins
There are some unofficial habits around here and please don't be offended when people are tough on you. Develop a tough skin and don't ever resort to pouting. No one knows you. Everything will be OK.
I didn't deny deny that you said was correct. I'm saying I'm new to this and I ask questions to get answers. You have 60 years on this that's I understand but I'm NEW to this no one taught me this I just like the look of some coins and I thought I would try this out. I've only been at this for a few months
That's cool... and besides learning about coins, there is certainly a learning curve for how this forum works, and the tone and expectations for posts. If you stick with coins, and stick with this forum, you will learn a ton!
Welcome aboard!
Thank you and I understand that. I just rather people consider how they put their words is all. Not pouting. But thank you
Welcome to the nut house, Keep posting not as much as others but keep posting and have fun no questions is a dumb question. Be safe out there.
Hoard the keys.
Good for you. I got mine in the raw for 11$ from a brick and mortar LCS.
As for sending it in for grading, not actually worth it unless you have the rest of the set already existing in slabs.
Cheers.

You may not have intentionally ripped him off due to mutual ignorance, but I would be hard pressed to defend $1 for $9 of silver to be a "fair price" under any circumstances. That is different than saying that the transaction itself was above board.
And since it is a friend and you now know it's with $9, you could compensate him for the difference. Just saying...
