Doily Sample Holders - When did the selling/asking prices go through the roof?

I noticed that there at least four Doily Sample Dimes on eBay, and the asking prices are north of $1,000. I can understand the extra demand for an other than the usual 1964 (D) Dime, but does anyone know what stimulated the price increase in the Doily Samples market?
Yes, I know that the upper left hand corner is not a Doily.

maybe because of the Date of the dime? most slabs were produced with the 1964-D dime in them and PCGS only made them for a short time (6 months)
They are hoping that PT Barnum was correct.
Mine is one of the listed ones. I got a $600 off eBay offer I turned down. That's why I pegged my price over $1k. Fishing for the best offer I can get.

When the promoting of them on this forum began. It is one of the most successful "hypes" along with the "dirty gold" hype of several years back.

My mind reader refuses to charge me....
The dimes are nice looking in the doily holders.
I have to do a physical inventory search to locate some of mine.

Asking price is meaningless. What did they sell for?

CORRECT
To me they are worth the premium my local dealers will pay for them ... ZERO.
Looks like this is the answer to your question.

Scrolling down through the responses helps you arrive at a reasonable conclusion.
I keep a fairly accurate value base on Doilies . . . and the standard Roosie Sample hasn't moved much. When I started this little exercise in Doily accumulation, the Samples were about $60. Now they are about $120. I don't harbor any ill will against anyone for trying to get all they can though . . . .

Comparing apples and oranges. Buy it now pricing is based on sellers hopeful sales price.
Multiple sales north of $350 in the past 3 months DRUNNER. Should update your data.
