Question: When you ignore a user here, what exactly does it do?

Well, it means you can't see the weird text and blurry photos they post.... unless someone else quotes them.

There is a limit to how many people you can put on the list. I'm up to two. There's a third person who is running a good campaign to be added to the list.
I have not used that feature, but I believe that you will not see the user's posts unless another member quotes the person you have blocked. I think you will see threads that are started by a blocked user.

It's definitely not hiding the users' posts. If that's as designed, it's kind of useless, at least for me right now.
One thing it doesn’t do - when the ignored start a new thread, you will see that and the op. Subsequent replies will be hidden.
I guess that means you're stuck reading my nonsense then.

If they are obnoxious enough, they will likely be banned at some point.
Maybe you misspelled their name? Left an extra space after the name?

I confirmed who I ignored today is on the list. It sounds like my assumption about how it works was wrong. I expected to not see their threads anymore.

I've never put anyone on ignore. I guess I'm just too afraid that I might miss some juicy posts.

you can see that they made a post to a thread but what they posted remains hidden unless you click on it.
ok. i don't feel so bad now. after a decade on the forum and just obtaining the ancient status(along with 2200+ others), i can confirm i have 3 on my list. (i can't recall anyone ever on any site that stays on my list forever though, including ebay)
you can see the threads they start and that they have made a post but it won't let you see specifics. maybe the first post in a thread they start. so you know they still exist but it is more a whisper than a yell.

I don't need a feature to ignore something or someone, my mom taught me how to do it back when I was just a young 'un with 6 older and 3 younger siblings.

I have never used the ignore feature.... No need to. Probably some have ignored me though
I just open threads that interest me, and pass those that do not.... Many threads do not get a comment, but I may learn something from them. Cheers, RickO

Good sources tell me if an "ignored" person clicks on your thread, it sends a fart in their general direction.
Just thought of this: I wish there was a way to set up a smart ignore for certain threads like "1987 pennie, swear this is double die" or "Two headed quarter, I know this is genuine, found at Walmart".

Can you tell if somebody has you on ignore?
Also, I have only put one person that I find annoying on IGNORE. But every time they posted, I couldn't resist seeing what they posted. So, I would take them off IGNORE long enough to see what they had posted, and immediately put them back on IGNORE. After doing this several times, I gave up, and took them OFF IGNORE. I HAVE NOT used the IGNORE function since.
I put one person on IGNORE, because this person wouldn't stop making personal remarks. Then I saw nothing posted by this person for quite some weeks, and was concerned that he might have passed away from COVID or something. But fortunately he seems to still be around... HANG IN THERE, EVERYONE, EVEN IF YOU ARE ANNOYING!

I tried blocking a this one quote troll. Did not c his posts unless somebody quoted him. He is one of about 6 people IMO that wb nice if all of a sudden silent….So what am I going to do block them too lol.

Out of curiosity I went in and checked out my "Ignore List" and apparently the forum also put them on the forum "Ignore List" - ie the Bam Hammer struck.
