GSA "Silver Dollar" vs. "Uncirculated Silver Dollar"

What was the determination of whether a GSA CC ended up in a "Silver Dollar" VS. "Uncirculated Silver Dollar" holder? The example in my collection is clearly uncirculated and not extremely beat up either. I've heard that toned examples were put in "Silver Dollar" holders but this coin is blast white Any thoughts on this?

What you heard is correct. Silver dollar examples were circulated or toned. Unc examples were blast white. With millions encapsulated it's likely that there could be an untoned example in a non UNC case.

They were deemed to be of inferior quality or condition at the time. Many nice coins ended up in the "Silver Dollar" holders.
so how bad did they have to be to end up in soft packs? I have seen some nice ones in soft packs ...
I bought a few in original shipping packages back in the early 2K's, from a former member here. I believe they were all 'Silver Dollar' labels..... Would have to check that out, been a while since I looked at them. I unwrapped them myself - no surprises. Cheers, RickO
They could be put in holders that did not say UNCIRCULATED if they were heavily scuffed "OR" if they were toned. The sorters often had no idea what they were doing.
Most of my GSA are uncirculated except the 1882 CC which is MS61 and picked it up because it was only a few bucks more than an ungraded version

Edited to add the pictures of other GSA that would make the point about the whimsical frame of mind of the sorters who were just tossing the coins into whatever pile they took a fancy to.
I mean lady Liberty does have quite a bit of scars on her face on most of them, but TPG grades vary.
My ungraded 1883 and 1884 CC morgans that were posted on another thread earlier.

And I understand the people they hired to sort through the coins (College Students if I was told correctly) were trained in about 2 mins about how to tell the difference. They had to go through several hundred million of them in a very short span. So this is the result.
Correction: Millions, not hundreds of millions.
As stated above, it can be due to wear or excess bag marks.
This is stated on the original insert / COA.
Your count is rather off.
What a job!
Here is my raw 1883 CC GSA Uncirculated Silver Dollar Morgan.
