Is there any way of knowing what year is inside? I saw one auction and someone wrote 1884 on it. How do they know the year?

You can tell from the shipping label. I had one recently. It was on the label.

Boxes without the label on them are next to impossible to know for sure. Bet it's an 82, 83 or 84 though as those were ordered in "bulk" and thus would not have the labels. Also, so few of the other dates were in the sales that could be included it reduces the chance of a 90 or 91 or such. MS63 is average for the common dates and getting a GEM or such would also be unlikely but certainly more plausible than the rare date scenario.

These are just plain white sealed boxes.

@CoinCrazyPA .... If not in original shipping condition (wrapped, labeled) then no way to tell what is inside... or if it has been swapped out and resealed. Cheers, RickO
