Only if there is an outstanding balance or some other issue with the seller.

If the seller did not use the eBay shipping option, they may be waiting for confirmation of delivery. I recently sold something on eBay for the first time in a couple of years and they released the funds the day after the USPS delivered.

Ebay now wants the tax id or social security number from any seller that sells a few hundred bucks a year there so they can report it to the IRS, and will hold out paying if you sell something there now. Might be something to do with that.

The government (IRS) requires this information from eBay, it has nothing to do with what eBay wants to report.

The poster was asking for reasons for a hold. This is just a reason. First year I've been asked for this info, so I thought there might be something there as far as his question.

This, go into your account and make sure you social security is correct and entered.

Is there an option for how often eBay deposits?

eBay will sometimes withhold payment if the delivery zip code does not match the buyers zip code. This can happen when you ship to a PO Box (per Buyers EBay confirmed shipping address) where the post office building has its own unique zip code. When the buyer picks up the item, the scan will show the item was delivered to the physical zip code rather than the PO Box zip code. It’s confusing and annoying as a seller, but doesn’t indicate any sort of problem.

    As buyer or seller?

Did he take a break and recently return?

    Why do we care?

Are you the seller or is this a friends?

Is there already a 'linked' account where eBay has been taking payments?
How was the item shipped and have they left feedback?

how do you know? did the seller want you to send back?

I remember when eBay first took back payment control, one seller told me they were not going to send until they got the money ... they eventually did
