First time EVER on Ebay . . . Part 2 . . . The Shocker!

It happened again!

An ebay transaction that turned out better than expected. Here is the whole sordid tale . . . .

I ordered two Daniel Carr pieces from an ebay seller I have occasionally done business with, Dave Hayes of JRH Specialty Services. The order was for two 2012 ANACS certified Stonehenge pieces.

So the package arrives. The first item I pulled from the cardboard sleeve looks like this.
.

.

.

.

I thought to myself, “Oh crap. One of Dave’s guys pulled the wrong piece for the order. Now I have to deal with the whole return, reship routine.”

Then I pulled the two Stonehenge pieces that I really wanted.
.

.

.

.
My next thought was, “Oh crap, I had too many items make it to the shopping cart. Did I actually do a Covid induced accidental purchase?”

Then I pulled a note from Dave out of the package. That is when the shock set in.
.

.

.

.

I had to do some research on that Blairsville piece. The ASE overstrike is a very limited production of just 25 pieces. I already own the regular silver / brass / copper made for the public Blairsville set.

I was vaguely aware of the extremely limited mintage pieces but figured I would never see one of those available for purchase in my lifetime.

Suffice it to say, I’m going to need to see my dentist after that jaw-drop . . . . . .

My sincere thanks to Dave Hayes and JRH Specialty Services for such a kind gift. Kudos to this ebay seller.

    Another numismatic factoid.

Dave Hayes is a named contributor on the cover of the most recent So-Called Dollars Book.

You got me to lookup the Perry designs. Beautiful stuff! Too bad they're all gone :(

    Steph,

Here are the obverse and reverses together.

I've been wanting copies of these for a while. Total minted population numbers are just 93 for the copper and 61 for the brass. These don't come up very often.

My jaw just dropped. I live in Detroit; I can't tell you how many times I've driven through Perry, Ohio, past Put-in-bay, and had no idea of the historical significance to that name Perry or that there was a battle there.
Mr. Hayes gift to you inadvertently rubbed a bit off on me because of the contents of this thread. :)

How wonderful in this era is it to read of such good natured actions among collectors.

Our nation is filled with kind people from all walks of life, most of whom would give the shirt off their back to anyone in need, but you wouldn't gather that from the sensationalism of our media.

Great post. Thanks for starting off my day on a positive note!

    HAPPY COLLECTING!!!
