An inquiry on a two headed quarter

I got a call earlier from a gentleman who sent me a picture of a two headed quarter, he said he did not see an seam indicating any funny business. He said: "I would like to get this coin graded and sold at auction. Thank you!" I'd normally dismiss this out of hand because I have never heard of such a thing being mint made. Please share your thoughts and I will forward them to the gentleman.

I will eat my own head if that is from the mint. He probably sent you two pictures of the obverse. 😀

The first photo shows a seam around the rim. ;)

There is the seam. Not bad work. 😉

Even if through some miracle an error like that had been made and escaped the mint, wouldn’t the date be the same?

Very visible seam and even with various mint shenanigans we have seen they haven’t done this. Perhaps the way the anvil and hammer dies are made make it very difficult to swap them for a moonlight madness.

The seam would not be in the reeding

It would be on the inside of the rim on one side

Funny! OP edited the pictures. It used to show 1989 twice. 😀

The seam is even easier to see under 1989

I sent the inquirer a link to the thread for his information; thanks for the responses. Yes, two different dates, originally I posted two of his same pictures twice then noticed I had not posted the second downloaded picture.

Let us know what the response is ..... Some people will refuse to accept the answer when they believe they have something special. Encountered that many times...and has been displayed often here on the forum. Cheers, RickO

I have several Kennedy half magicians coins found while roll searching years ago. I’ll try and get some pics up. Definitely seam inside the rim. You can really tell they are different when dropped on a table. Because they are not solid they thump and have no ring like a regular coin.

The seam is just inside the rim. It's not on the edge. It's called a magician's coin.

It's also called a "cup and saucer".
