Neon Album/Target Toned 1938-D Buffalo Nickel... bought half a lifetime ago
Next on my list of coins I recently pulled to photograph is this pretty little buffalo (which, while also a 38-D, is completely unrelated to the two in this thread: https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/comment/13138039). I bought this coin raw when I was a junior in high school (2004), quite literally half my lifetime ago. Seeing as how I'd gotten my driver's license less than 2 months prior, this was likely the first or second show I ever drove to by myself. That summer, PCGS had a promotion to join for $25, and I sent this coin in with one of my free grading vouchers (it graded MS64). Perhaps it's not a spectacular monster, but I've always liked the rich, bright colors and smile every time I pull it out of its box.

What did it grade? Toning looks nice. Luster looks a bit lacking for a 38D but its overall a nice Buffalo nickel.

Whoops… thought I wrote that there. Edited the OP… it’s a 64.
Nice coin with kool coloring.

I really like that one!
Very nice! I've seen that toning many times....it kind of "glitters" when you move it under a lamp. It's usually with the later dated Buffs for some reason. That's what I recall anyways....

I think it's album toning and have seen it on a span of years, but would bet the surface quality and lustre of later years have resulted in them getting toned more nicely.
Those are really great pictures Jeremy.... I can see the 'texture' of the surface so clearly. Cheers, RickO
Nice!
Yes...Wayte Raymond or possibly Dansco. I like the fact that the rainbow is "tight" (in front of Indian's face). When I see a set of colors "spread out" I get a little bit nervous...if you follow my meaning.

Yup... I also find (though perhaps not a definitive rule) that such coins tend to have a slightly lighter/less saturated color palette; on the whole the colors from albums seem a bit bolder (unless someone goes the other way and makes the color sit really funny on the coin, resulting in it being way oversaturated).
Nice one!
