09SVDB, This One May Be A New Breed Of Phony!

MarkW63MarkW63 Posts: 1,532 ✭✭✭✭

Unless I'm being fooled by the pictures or lighting I'm calling this one a counterfeit due to the very wrong mint mark font and its location is to far right to be that high!
The whoever did this did pretty good with the style of the designer's initials!

Lining up the some things on the reverse it like someone did a very good job of arranging things.
The period following the "V" in the designer's initials seems to be just a tad high for the normal.
The "B" is very close, but looks a little right?
And they've got the "N" in united dang close :o

Odd style "S" and location of mintmark not matching the 4 positions I'm familiar with but the reverse looks to be the best I've seen if counterfeit. What about the "S" MM and location?

In my opinion, with that "S" it is not genuine, but what a great reverse. Bad times ahead, if so.

Mint mark wrong “font” - if you can call that a font - and it’s too far right

The font of the "S" doesn't seem to match to me, thick at top and thin at bottom and with what ever ends are on this font and then being so far left, just doesn't bode well. I've never seen a counterfeit with the shallow "N" so well done.

Don't feel the obverse was ever a question, but the reverse is another matter. Someone has that down unless someone has another identifying diagnostic I'm not aware of and if so, I hope they will share it.

The first thing I picked up on was the mint mark font and location as many have already stated.
    The reverse is scary.
Really a great attempt to make it look genuine.
Glad it was taken down but with that quality, it will soon reappear on another listing.

I suppose that the mintmark position should matter, but in this case, when looking at the obviously spurious "S", it isn't important. (in this case).

The MM and placement are pretty obvious but the attention to detail on the reverse is scarey. Hopefully the would be counterfeiters aren't on this board getting tips!
