Yay I got my grades from PCGS today! :)

At the beginning of last month I signed up for PCGS "Silver" membership and sent in my first ever submission to a TPG.
I submitted 3x of each coin from the 2021 Morgan & Peace Dollar set.
Did I do good?
Interestingly I bought 2x CCs raw from JMB since I wasn't able to get 3 of them from the US Mint at the time and I wanted to send in 3 full sets and the coins I bought raw from JMB ended up grading MS70 even though people used to tell me all the time that major retailers cherrypicked coins for submission and sold the grading rejects raw so I was curious to see if that was true.
Apparently in this case it's not if I was able to buy those 2x CC 2021 Morgans raw from JMB and they both graded MS70 despite the fact that JMB was selling both PCGS & NGC MS70 CCs on their site directly.

I think you did well as PCGS does not hand out 70s in high ratios.
Great results, @MKUltra24!
It seems like the D mint marks are having the most problems when it comes to getting MS70.
I have no clue how someone sent in a D Morgan and got the grade of MS62. I mean I could understand MS68 or even MS67 just due to random scratches from rough treatment in shipping alongside the fact that these coins were reportedly popping out of the capsules.
But MS62?? That's a pretty banged up coin for something graded less than a month after release.
Thanks! I wasn't sure exactly what to expect in terms of how many 69s & 70s the average person gets.
I wasn't sure if maybe I should expect half or my coins to get 70 or less or more.
Congratulations! You have a full set of 70s and one more set short just one. Pretty good if you ask me.

YES those grade are better than anyone could reasonably expect. I hope you saved some (70's) for the rest of us!

the D coins had, from anecdotal info, more serious problems than any of the rest.
I suspect someone new sent in a heavily contacted Morgan out of ignorance. I saw some D-mint MS60 pics, imo.
Plenty to go around!
One thing I did was I left the coin in the capsule and then just put the capsule in a flip instead of taking the coin out of the capsule and putting it in the flip raw like they told me to do before I asked if I could leave it in the capsule for extra protection.
Yup! I can sell a full 69 set (for the budget conscious who don’t want to pay double because most people can’t tell the difference between 69 and 70) and then I can sell the extra 70s raw to the people who insist on 70s while keeping a full 70 set for myself
.
Maybe I could trade my extra MS70 CC Morgan for an MS70 Peace Dollar.
I believe that's the con that was the subject of an earlier debate here, images don't suggest 62, several believe it to be a typo... (MS69?)

That could be possible. Although you’ll notice that there is a 64 too and a couple 65s and 66s and I’m surprised that someone would send in a 64 or 65 for one of these coins.
The only thing I can think of is some coins popped out of their capsules and were scratched up in transit and whoever sent them in didn’t look at the coin before submitting it.
P.S. Is your profile picture the little boy from the Twilight Zone who has godly powers and everyone is afraid of?
nice!
nice grades congrats!
Yes!

Yay, moderns!
Looking at the chart that MKUltra24 posted it seems that PCGS is handing out MS70 grades at a much greater rate than MS69's, close to 3 to 1 overall. So it seems that really MS69 or lower are the grades that will be rare not the MS70's
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
The chart is a bit misleading because the ratio of 69s to 70s has been slowly decreasing.
It used to show as much as a 15 to 1 ratio because all of the Advanced Releases and special labels were given 70s and so at one point it showed like 4,000 70s and only 12x 69s but the 70s are slowing down and the 69s have been speeding up.
@MKUltra24... Those are great results. Though, I would expect new coins from the mint to do well, often the 69's are more common. I have a CC privy Morgan and a Peace... and I am certain they would rate a 70 if I were to submit them. I will not, just happy to admire them as they are. Cheers, RickO
It is possible to request grades no lower than 70 with the rest not holdered.
This skews pop reports
I also read somewhere that when it comes to modern bullion PCGS is much stricter than NGC.
Apparently NGC hands out MS70 grades in larger numbers compared to PCGS.
Thanks Swamp!
Based on what everyone has said it sounds like I did pretty good.
I remember my local coin dealer in my old town sent in a bunch of proof American Silver Eagles for grading and I was surprised at how few 70s he got relative to 69s.
I believe he got like 20x PR70 and then like 50 something PR69s.
He sold all of them pretty quickly though but he did charge significantly more for the 70s even though most people probably couldn’t tell the difference.
Great grades! Especially the D's as those had the most quality control issues............
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
That’s true!
Because when I bought my 2x CC’s raw from JM Bullion people were telling me that they believed that coins being sold raw like that are coins that were sent back 69 and then cracked out and sold raw with the OGP.
That’s why I was absolutely shocked that both of the CCs I bought raw from JMB were graded MS70.
I saved a significant amount of money buying them raw and sending them in myself rather than buying them directly from a third party already graded 70.
The US Mint sold them for $85 raw
JMB sold them for $153 raw
But MS70s were sold for $300+
The grading cost was $35 (including the First Strike) so I feel I got a much better deal buying them raw and sending them in myself.
Fortunately I was able to buy everything else from the US Mint directly so the other coins were significantly cheaper than the CCs.
I learned a lot from this experience.
It's people like you......

Thanks! I genuinely wasn’t sure if I did good or not until I posted this thread because I’ve never sent anything in before so I wasn’t sure what to expect.
I know I would’ve been pretty bummed if all the coins were graded MS69.
I just didn’t know how many 70s to expect or what was a good number of 70s based on what I sent in.
As far as the D’s I have heard stories about capsules dislodging and popping open with the coin flying out.
With my coins a lot of the capsules had dislodged from the little slot but fortunately none of them popped open.
Is there anything else that went wrong with the D’s?
What did I do?
I’m just asking how I did on my first submission since I had no idea what to expect.
Just joking. It's in relation to the current turnaround time thread.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Oh ok
I didn’t think the turnaround time was too bad.
PCGS entered my coins into their system on 11/17 and shipped them back on 12/30.
But a lot of those days were Thanksgiving or Christmas holidays too so they might have been faster if I sent them in after the holidays.
I didn’t mind though.
