The Time Has Come: Selling Out

I just signed a contract with one of the major auction houses to sell my four remaining graded sets. Three of the sets are completed and the other is missing a few cards. They will be breaking up the three complete sets and pull a few cards to sell as singles from the incomplete set. The rest of that one will be sold as a lot.
I don't know what I will collect next but I doubt it will be card related. I may use the money to buy another muscle car.

Which sets are going auction? I'm curious, why the decision?
1954 Red Heart Dog Food #7 on the PSA registry
1963 Fleer baseball #17 on the registry
1964 Topps Stand-up #4 on the registry
1961 Nu-Card Scoops missing 3 cards #6 on the registry
I sold a big portion of my collection last year because of losing interest and health reasons. To me, looking for and finding cards is what interests me the most. Once I complete a set I'll still look for cards to upgrade the set. When it gets tough to find higher grade cards I lose interest in the sets. I haven't bought but around 10 or 15 cards all year. Plus, I am getting close to retiring and want to put the money away to help with retirement. I figure I should sell now while the market for high grade cards is good. The auction house I'm consigning to has a huge auction coming up in a couple months with a ton of high dollar cards and complete sets. They do not have a 54 Red Heart or 64 Stand-up set in the auction. I think the cards I have will do well.

Sad to hear but I have been contemplating this same decision as you. I am sure you did the research into the different auction houses to determine which would give you the best service and return. Which auction house did you end up choosing?
@jfkheat Good luck with the sale. I had a 54 Red Heart set, sold it the late 80's. VG to EX. Kept the Mantle.
@jfkheat
Sad to hear it but happy for you!
Muscle car pick up post are welcomed 😁
Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?

Can't go wrong with buying a muscle car. Good luck with your auction.
I have a feeling you are timing this decision pretty well.
James...
I just retired and had a considerable offer for my entire collection from Memory Lane...but decided to keep it and enjoy my collection a little longer during retirement.
Good Luck w/your sale...
Monte
Good luck with your sale - hope you set records on all cards (unless it is one I bid on). Will miss seeing your pick-ups.
James,
Just sent you a PM
Curious, are you keeping anything? or selling to the floor boards?

High grade 1954 Red Hearts are tough. You should clean up..........
Hiya James
Disappointing to read this.
I will miss you and wish you all the best with your new hobby.
I've been spending some time looking at the hobby with respect to JCLs (Johnny come....)/investors/bandwagoners and how it's affected our hobby along with Topps/Panini losing their licensing. I have a personal prediction. Will just have to see?
Take care - hope you do well at auction buddy. 👍
Best of luck on the auctions! I hope you get record sales!
Best of luck with your auctions, and thank you for helping me try to complete my 1959 baseball set, when you sold me a couple of the high # all stars earlier this year.
Collecting two of those four sets. Is it a secret which auction house and when the auctions will be?
Late 60's and early to mid 70's non-sports
Thanks for all the comments. The auction house is Mile High. The auction is February or March.
Wow, while sad to read from my vantage point, I suspect you are excited to consider a new journey.
I have said this before, but your posts several years ago during one of the big early run ups in unopened from yesteryear were huge inspirations for how I grew as an unopened collector.
Good luck in wherever this takes you next and hoping for bonanza realized auction prices for you.

I wish you all the best, James. Truly. You have to follow your heart. I hope you get that muscle car. As someone who once owned an antique car, I totally get the attraction. Good luck!!
Andy
Well, the auction has been running for about two weeks. It ends March 31st. I have several cards that are already at record prices and more that are close. A lot of cards have a long way to go to be at where they should be. Overall, I am pleased at where the total is with a week to go.

Shhh - don’t let people know so they will outbid me!
James - good luck with the sales. Hoping to bring a few more cards from your collection into mine.
James, I am currently high bid on a ton of your cards. I think it is time to call off all other bidders!

If you can get another car like that you have made a good decision. That sucker is cherry!
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
Thank you, I'll see what I can do to help.
James - You will be a wealthy man after March 31. Congrats !!!
