Coin found in Robert E. Lee time capsule

They didn't announce what coin it was.

Which coin would you hope to find if you opened it?

I'll guess that it's a Great Britian Victoria Jubilee shilling.

I would guess it is a confederate gold coin... Cheers, RickO

I just read that the coin found was a silver coin...no further identification. However, they believe there is another time capsule box... since this one did not fit the description printed at the time of encapsulation. Cheers, RickO

Don't know if I hope it's any certain coin but I'll guess an 1861-O half dollar. The only official coin struck by the Confederacy.

If its silver, I'd think a Confederate Half Dollar too...

The coin with the book is a Great Britain Victoria Jubilee Shilling.

Yea, what a weird selection of items in that box......people are scratching heads trying to figure it out!.......Somebody has a sense of humor.......

The box that was removed from the pedestal does not fit the description of the "time capsule" described in contemporary newspaper accounts, nor do the contents. The coin is described in the Times Dispatch as an "1887 Victoria Dei Gratia" coin
