Any guesses on what the item might be that "appears to be a coin" found in time capsule?

As stated in the article..."Conservators pulled out other items: what appeared to be a coin, at least three books of varying size and color, what appeared to be an envelope and papers. Some of the items were difficult to identify given their condition."

I'll guess it was a CSA Half Dollar.

The original frisbee was a pie tin from a bakery named Frisbie.
As far as a guess a coin dated 1887.

edited to correct the spelling of Frisbie Pie Company's name.

On the surface this is just a pretty broad guessing game type of question but after thinking about it, I wonder if there was much thought out into what coin was included, year, mint mark, condition. I wouldn’t assume it was 1887 dated coin, maybe something dated that was significant to the civil war? All kinds of possibilities. Maybe they just rummaged through their pockets and threw something random in there.

Yeah, but will that little bit of toning be considered AT, NT, or market acceptable?

They immediately wiped it off as it was starting to tarnish upon exposure to the air......Probably a coin that wasn't spendable at the time, just threw it in for fun.

Yep... the article I read said it was a silver coin, and they immediately put it somewhere to prevent 'further tarnish'... Details will be forthcoming I am sure. Also, it is believed this is not the only time capsule, since the written description from the time period describes a totally different container and multiple inclusions. Cheers, RickO

The writers and discoverers probably said silver coin for the reasons noted above. They probably have no idea what a schilling is.

    Many happy BST transactions
