Need some help I keep telling a friend I don’t think it’s real but 1937-D Buffalo 3 leg.

Type2Type2 Posts: 13,985 ✭✭✭✭✭

It’s his coin so I should just send it in. I just don’t want him to waste his money and I keep telling him it’s not real so I told him I will ask on the board and then he can look and make a decision. I could be wrong you never know maybe I’m losing it now. Here are the pic. Thanks in advance for your help.

Its pretty beat up and appears cleaned, but looks genuine. Probably not worth the cost to get it graded.

If it’s fake it fools me.

I am not familiar with these but I would like to know why you think it is not real?.

Disagree. If real always worth authentication. This post wouldn’t exist if it had been.

I’d like to be able to assess it in hand in order to opine, but it looks genuine to me.

@JimTyler It wouldn't be worth the cost to me, especially if it got details graded due to a cleaning.

EDIT I had one in AU that had been cleaned. I sold it raw to a dealer. Puts more money in my pocket than if I had it certified.

If the owner plans on selling it at least get it authenticated. The coins not going to end up in a top pop registry set but at least the prospective buyer will know it is real.

The back leg is not right, the pee line doesn’t look right. Here are some pic’s of some real ones.

Based on everything else I see (including the die erosion on the Indian’s neck) I’m guessing it’s there, just not clear in the image.

In hand or MUCH better pics would be needed to verify if authentic or not. I also think if it’s real it should be graded. Yes it’s worth it.

Genuine, with problems. Absolutely worth getting certified. If not, you'll get the same differing opinions on authenticity you're seeing here from dealers when it's time to sell it, and that will affect what you can sell it for. Certification will eliminate the question of authenticity and you'll only worry about which dealer is willing to pay the best price.

The D font and position is not the same. It’s off…..I think it’s fake.

The only thing that has me worried is that the upper hind leg appears to possibly have too much meat.
    That concerns me.
Better photos are in order, and better yet, professional authenticity.
The value of this coin makes that worthwhile in my book.
