All of my extended family is in New England. So as it has been every year since I moved to Texas, it will be me, my wife, and kids. My mother in law is here too, because she lives with me.

You'll like this @Doubledragon Since we don't buy anything that has high fructose corn syrup or is GMO (preferring organic if possible) there is no good egg nog option at local stores. Of course there are exceptions, but you get the point. My wife has made it a few times before, but she is extra busy right now. I started talking about it a few weeks ago, and luckily my daughter made some yesterday.

You know, I've never tried egg nog in my life, I don't know why, I just never have. Now, hot chocolate with marshmallows, that's a different story. ;)

I was born and raised in Massachusetts, so egg nog was around during the Holidays. Never could sneak up on it enough to enjoy it...until somebody added some of "Uncle Eddie's" secret ingredient, which really added some zip. B)

If you haven't, you should experience Christmas in New England sometime. The snow and cold kinda add to the experience.
I HIGHLY recommend not shoveling anything that's white or flaky!!

As for Christmas, just the wife, cat and me. Weather forecast is for mid 60s and sunny, so it'll be a mellow day, just enjoying the moment.

Merry Christmas to all on the boards. Hopefully a Happy New Year, one that's much better than 2021!

Gotta admit, snowy Christmases in New England are by far the best. Except for that damn snow plow guy who kept putting all that snow at the end of the driveway I had to shovel.

Lived briefly near the Common next to Keith Academy, where they used to have cool Carnivals...long, long ago and far away. Now condos I think.
Moved to Christian Hill off of Bridge St, lived on Beech St. Walked many, many a feezing cold day over that bridge to Lowell High School. You knew it was cold when the Merrimack river actually froze.
Went out for football in my Sophomore year, thought I'd be kinda cool with the ladies...NOT. I still remember his name, Tommy Poznick, he ran over me like squashing an ant. I decided then that my purpose at football games was to be in the stands enjoying my student tickets with friends and the immediate scenery, not to mention my health.
Big game was always Thanksgiving against Lawrence.
Lowell was ok, but not for me, I just didn't see much potential there. When I left home at 18 I visited fairly often when my parents were still alive. The city is just a distant memory now, but good memories, had a lot of fun. Did Salisbury and Hampton Beach in the Summer and occasional trips to Winnipesaukee.

Have a great Christmas to my long lost brother. B)

Because of my faith, I wish all who believe a Merry Christmas...but I have the same respect for those who don't and wish the Happiest Holidays and Season's Greetings. My wife wore a shirt yesterday that says "Merry Everything"! @thisistheshow and I have been communicating on and off the forum for over 2 years on a routinely consistent basis and I consider him a very special person in my life. I'm a tad bit jealous of the Eggnog though, it's normally a staple, but my doctor recently took me off of all but 1 medication and I have been trying to be good!!! :D I do plan to make some homemade Friday night though! Even though I don't post often, I do tried to read the threads when I can and I appreciate ALL the folks here for the knowledge, fun, interesting topics and even the obscure. I'm not specifically talking about DD, although I may be talking mostly about DD! ;) I hope everyone is enjoying this time of year! <3

I'm cheap so I usually don't buy a Christmas tree, why waste money when I can just make my own, there's plenty of quality material available outside to make one. Say hello to this year's beautiful Christmas tree.

I will be having a New England Christmas, but not here in Maine. We will be traveling to my Inlaws place in New Hampshire.

by the way, give the almondmilk nog a try. My wife got some this year because she said it would be "more healthy"
    It was actually pretty good.

Lowell has certainly gone through some changes, ups and downs. If you are from there you know that it has an amazing and important history with the mills. We even got our own quarter. 🤣 But it also sadly saw great economic downturn, as did so many other "industrial" towns and cities.

My family in my father's side is French-Canadian. My father was second generation in the US. His family had been done of the first French in Canada centuries ago. So in Lowell they lived in the French section, spoke French, etc. I didn't grow up like that, but we did live in Lowell. My three sisters are older than me, ranging in age from 59 to 66 right now. All graduated from Lowell HS. I lived on Gibson St next to the old Pine St Elementary school. I don't know if you know where that is. When I was five, my father died. By that point, my youngest sister was out of the house. My Mom and I moved to the South Shore the next year to be close to her family.

Yes, Lowell was a key player with the Boot Mills along the river, now a National Historical Site. As mentioned, I used to walk over the Bridge St bridge going to Lowell High and passed by the untold millions and millions of bricks that built the Boot Mills. I was in Lowell 2 months ago to meet my lifelong friend I've know forever, like Grammar School at St Michaels on 6th St. The city looked weary to me, kinda run down and hasn't been well maintained. Kinda sad to see it now.
Yes, I know where Pine St Elementary school was.
    Again, Merry Christmas!
