Coin Holder Durability

If not a die hard "PCGS only" collector but one who also owns (or owned) coins graded by NGC, ANACS, or ICG, which holders do you find hold up the best? I like my PCGS but find the holders chip the easiest out of all of them. I wish a different type of plastic could be used on these. I started putting all my holders in those little cellophane pockets to protect them. At least from scratching anyway. I had none of the other holders chip on me (yet). After PCGS the majority are then NGC followed by a handful of ANACS and then just one ICG.

Agree with use of the cellophane sleeves to prevent scratching on the viewing surface.
I have not had any of my slabs chip... scratch yes. I use the plastic polisher to remove scratches. Cheers, RickO
NGC uses softer plastic which may explain fewer chips. OTOH, it is difficult (if not impossible) to polish out scratches on NGC holders. PCGS slabs can be cleaned up nicely with plastic polish like Meguiar's.
I much prefer PCGS holders.
Lance.
I used to dread scratched holders until I refined my polishing method, and now I don't even blink when I receive scratched holders. Meguiars PlastX available at auto parts stores, and a few very soft micro fibers like the ones you would use on sunglasses, small, very soft. Wet the cloth, and polish with a small amount of the PlastX. No need to press super hard, keep it gentle....don't let it dry, keep it wet.....then polish with a clean microfiber, and repeat again as necessary....Easy peasy. In a few minutes you should have a very acceptable slab.
This is not the correct way to approach the problem
This, however is very good with proper wiping towels

Good to know, who doesn't have holders with scratches? Peace Roy

I like my holders mint, and keep them in their respective boxes. When out and being shown around, they’re in the plastic bags.
It was hard to look past these scratches, I just got this yesterday, and these scratches on the back are at the limit of what I can tolerate.
Aside from a small crack on the front, (likely related) the holder is mint. I can only assume it was mistreated only briefly as the rest of the holder is perfect.
