The circulated Jefferson nickels was probably the most cheapest set I had ever seen on eBay as well as the LCS with a complete set in Whitman album being sold for as low as 25$ :o

It sort of looked like the following one currently on eBay

I see. The set was assembled in the past. It certainly seemed strange someone found a chAU 1973 nickel anytime recently.

Collectable "values" are set almost solely by demand and as little demand as there is for BU nickels (especially post-'64) there is far less demand for circulated coins.

It's a nice set and the later dates are especially attractive. I like the earlier ones but they're pretty common even in BU. The later dates are scarce in XF/ AU apparently.

For a long time I struggled with finding decent coins for a few dates and sort of cheated to eventually pick up one such readymade set even though most of the modern Jefferson nickels were already in my possession. Had to buy some of the war nickels and a few others to rotate out the ones in my album. Below are the silvers that were upgraded.

On my last 5 rolls from the 2nd box on nickels, When finished will report on the 1st and 2nd box finds for the 30s, 40s,50s,60s,70s, and so on. Earliest find for the 2nd box so far is a 1939S in Fine condition. I also broke down each roll by old obverse and new obverse. Cheers.

I have a gallon jug of nickels...pocket change accumulated over a couple of decades....(my wife makes me put the change in jars, rather than on top of the bureau ;) ).... I should look through them one of these snowy winter days. Cheers, RickO

I have a magnum wine bottle I started dropping all my decent nickels from pocket change into years ago. I glance at them before I drop them in only to be sure nothing damaged/corroded/grody goes in. It was getting close to full early last year so I counted them and there was over $130. Since then I've shaken it hard every time I put a few in to force everything to settle. It's now completely full & won't hold another single nickel. I suppose there's $150+ in there, 3000+ nickels. As to dates/mintmarks, I have no idea. Don't know if I'll ever want to look through them, right now I'm looking for another magnum bottle.

Successful BST transactions: EagleEye, Christos, Proofmorgan,

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't no optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.

@ms71.... I understand.... I have - in addition to the nickels - jars of dimes, quarters and multiple jars of cents... Including almost a gallon of wheaties. I just don't have the 'search fever' right now.... Cheers, RickO

I also have a 1.5L wine bottle chock full of pre-1982 Lincolns and another of the same in progress. As with the nickels, I make sure nothing nasty goes into the bottle. Currently my pocket-change nickels go into coffee-can purgatory until I locate another magnum bottle.
