Condolences to all family and friends. That said David Pike died almost a month ago. The OP posts the word COVID more times than he mentions David Pike. Is this a thread on covid opinions or is it truly a remembrance thread for Mr Pike?

I wonder why so many refuse to take this seriously (Mr. Pike included when his death most likely could have been prevented)? When we send our coins in for grading we expect "experts" are grading them and take them at their word. But for some reason many seem to feel the EXPERTS in virology have no idea what they are talking about.

Great book called “the death of expertise.”

You don't think the second most common thread (after is my parking lot road rash coin an error) is how could [Insert the name of a TPG] get this coin grade so wrong?

There are plenty of places you can go to rant about the pandemic.

This is a coin forum and this thread was meant to alert people to a loss in the coin community and allow people to share experiences with the dealer or offer condolences.

First off, my condolences to the family and I hope he is at peace.

Back when I was a younger man I was a road cyclist and belonged to a number of online forums on the subject.
As you can guess, when you are associating with a group of people dressed in Lycra shorts who sound like tap dancers walking into the coffee shop at the half way point, most of the people on the site leaned a bit left.

Political conversations started destroying the forums and the site elected to create a PO "Politics Only" forum and it went a long way to helping threads like this from being hijacked.

Our hosts might want to consider something like this. It did a lot to help help the threads stick to things like "Campy vs. Shimano vs. SRAM.

I didn't like the two doses of vaccine, but got it anyway; toughest shots I ever got. Personally I'm very focused on physical health; I'd walk 7 miles a day if it were necessary or chow down on a head of garlic cloves a day if it would protect me.

As John Donne once said, every death diminishes us all. Grief and sadness are how I respond.

Condolences to his family. I bought my first 4-figure coin from him many years ago.

At the Grapevine, Texas coin show this weekend, I learned by this sign on the door that dealer David Pike (Liberty Rare Coins owner and ran the Grapevine show with his wife Ginger ) passed away Nov. 19. He was not vaccinated against COVID, and when he got sick, refused to go to the hospital.

Ginger became the sole owner of the show after a nasty divorce, just in time to have it shut down for almost a year due to COVID.

I didn't know the man. A quick search and read reveals that he was a an avid collector, dealer, and business owner. I can only assume that you knew him? This is a coin message board and I'm trying to understand why you decided to highlight the fact that he wasn't vaccinated.. Was that necessary? I hope his family doesn't look here and see that is his claim to fame here.. Wow, I don't get it.. JMHO

My prayers and condolences to his family and friends..

I wonder why so many refuse to take this seriously (Mr. Pike included when his death most likely could have been prevented)?
I personally did not know Mr Pike but no obituary, no newspaper articles, no 'Official' report of his death has been posted on line. How did we determine Covid killed him and, citing HIPPA, how do we know he refused medical treatment? No money in this game - just asking.

Yes, agree totally. The average age of COVID death in the US is 78. Mr. Pike appears to have been 77. I too, would like to know what treatments he got or tried, if any. It is beatable with drugs that we all have heard of and only the worst cases have these bad outcomes. Comorbidity problems play a huge part and as we age our immune system is not as strong as it should be. But, there is help. I just hope he was at peace.
