Terrible damage... and hitting at night compounds the problems. Very sad. I have seen - in person - the damage that a tornado does... The TV pictures do not do it justice. Simply horrific. Cheers, RickO

Ricko, you are so right! In person is very different than tv. Let’s hope they find more survivors. Just awful 😞

We had to get to our safe place last night, but everything is ok. Kentucky was hit very hard.

I have a project going in Mayfield Kentucky and it literally looks like an atomic bomb was dropped in places. I am in Clarksville and we were unscathed here.

Glad you are ok buck. If you hear of any local charities firing up post it please. Already did Red Cross but not sure how much actually makes it there

I’m in central Kentucky. We had a long restless night, but thankfully all the tornadoes missed us. The really bad one went a little north of us and the one that hit Bowling Green went a little south. I would recommend donating to this group. https://www.kybaptist.org/disaster-relief/ It's a religious affiliation, but I know several in our church are part of it, and they are always some of the first to respond. I suspect our church will be getting a group together soon to help as well. The pictures coming out from this tornado are terrifying. Looks like much of Mayfield was wiped off the map.

Devastating! We have friends in Tennessee that fortunately were spared the destruction.

I am from KY and still have family there. Fortunately they were not affected, however they reported 60 mph gusts. I do wind load calculations here in FL and 60 mph gusts are tough, not quite 170 mph gusts, but still.

Admins and community, this non-numismatic event is disastrous and deserves aid. This sort of thread where donations are solicited is where scams occur. While best intentions are surely the genesis of this thread, it does not belong on these forums.

  • jwittenjwitten Posts: 5,215 ✭✭✭✭✭

Very heartless post. Being a Kentuckian, I can say I very much appreciate the thoughts and prayers for my state being given here. And I appreciate those that asked how they can help. Obviously I would never recommend sending money to any individual, but it should be pretty easy to vet major organizations that help.

  • SaorAlbaSaorAlba Posts: 7,585 ✭✭✭✭✭

Kentucky is one of the very few states I have never visited, but would absolutely love to visit there soon.

I appreciate @jwitten posting a worthy organisation to donate to so we can help out those in need.

If you mean I have no emotional attachment while pointing out that these types of threads are where scams proliferate, then yes I guess heartless. But my point is without emotion, it would be easy to take advantage of this thread and this community of numismatists pining for better security.

Once again, this has nothing to do with the disaster, and that is the point.

@CopperWire I think we have more than enough capable and intelligent people here to identify and call out any type of scams.

Don Hendley “kick em when their up, kick em when their down , kick em where they sit, kick em all around .Give em dirty laundry “.
It’s very easy to confirm an honest group. One of the first things that I would do is get in touch with the people there. Which is what we’re doing.
You’ve been here since 06 and haven’t noticed this is a community?
Your kinda inferring we’re not capable of making good choices. Thanks 🤨
