Anyone ever have a package opened by Homeland Security . . . ?

I'm not sure what to make of this . . . . .
Shipped from a guy in Canada to me in Atlanta, but he used an American return address.
His Canadian return address was on a sticker on the back of the package . . . .
Anyone ever experience this?

Not me. But I sure do feel safer now.
I had a package of coins from Vatican City hacked open with a razor knife and then resealed with plain plastic tape a few years ago.
No sign of who did it and nothing was missing, but they cut right through a presentation case.
Nope, but a discrepancy in addresses will cause them to look twice….
Any package entering the country is subject to inspection by Customs.
Your package may have been a random inspection or something may have looked off to them.
Covid ...just saying...lol
This.
I've had my packages opened by foreign customs, as well.
Packages get opened by customs all the time.
Likely potential issue with shipper.

Yes, often. I just had a package stuck in customs for two weeks, thankfully released this afternoon! Ensure your seller always attaches the appropriate paperwork.
I had it happen to me as well.. ……all cut up. But, didn't have the green tape. It said US customs.
Also from Canada. And he had a US return address.

I have had tape from customs before on stuff entering that said customs, does yours say Homeland Security somewhere on it?
A few years ago I had a suitcase that was inspected by Homeland Security when it was checked baggage on a flight from Minneapolis to Seattle. There was a piece of paper in the suitcase saying so. I had a couple full Dansco albums of Jefferson nickels and a box of PCGS slabs. It probably looked a little odd under an x-ray.
I lived in Europe for 4 years and shipped a lot of things internationally to and from US and had packages opened on several occasions... I have also had my suitcase opened and they leave a note for that too. No big deal - it happens all the time
No but I had a fishing knife taken away from me at an airport many years ago.
Not yet but once had a package coming from Canada sit in customs for almost 6 months. When it arrived, everything looked fine.
A few weeks ago, I had my carry-on bag searched for a secondary screening because the family size bag of caramel M&Ms I had looked suspicious under the x-ray. It was a brand new sealed bag. When they opened my carry-on, they took out the bag of M&Ms and wanded them with a mini-X-ray scanner. Of course nothing was wrong with them but they needed a more powerful x-ray to see through the bag of candy. I thought that was very interesting. What’s more intriguing is my mother had the same size bag of sealed M&Ms in her carry-on but of the peanut variety instead of caramel - her bag did NOT get flagged for secondary screening. Makes me wonder if the caramel ones are more suspicious looking under x-ray or just more dense.
I had my Swiss Army Knife confiscated once.
1 1/2" blade- very dangerous. On the other hand, I was allowed to keep my 5 1/2" long mechanical pencil.
Guess which one would work best for stabbing someone.
it's interesting to me that more than one person has mentioned they had one from canada that was opened. that's got me wondering, are they looking for prescription drugs maybe?
Quite possibly.
I have had packages opened by customs, contents are generally unaffected.
I have also had two packages go missing in customs, both more than a year ago, and presumably lost for good. I received a refund from the seller in both situations, but it was sad to lose the coins.
The issue that I have is there was a big greasy fingerprint on the proof silver coin within.
The coin was in a plastic flip. Sellers photos had no fingerprint.
Yes the green tape clearly states Homeland Security.
Homeless Security cain't tell the difference between ganga and maple leaf sqeezings?

Could just be selection bias where more people here have received international packages from Canada versus other places, and origin isn’t the deciding factor for when a palate gets opened.
Yes, on a FedEx package from a Swiss auction house. And after tearing the package apart, Customs doesn't repack very well.
You would think they would trust a corporate sender, especially one in Switzerland, but obviously something attracted their attention (dog sniff or X-Ray perhaps).
Several companies make "tactical pens" that are regular pens that are made of high strength titanium and are designed to be used as a self-defense weapon. They are available on Amazon, eBay, etc.

@PerryHall... Re 'tactical pens'.... Yep, I carry one all the time...even flying. Has never been questioned. Cheers, RickO
I also have one. They're not too expensive. They're a fine writing implement and they may save your life.

The tape is CBP (Customs and Border Protection) which is under Homeland Security.

TSB opened a crate containing a Real-Time PCR machine going from Flagstaff AZ to Almaty Kazakstan... I guess they didn't know what it was and started taking it apart... it arrived in pieces with the TSB calling card inside. So much for research and tech transfer...
