    Another great article Mike.

Fred, is this the trip where you threw off center US cents over the Great Wall of China?

    Thanks Chris

Fred went in 1983 and the Mint Error News Article was years ago so…

Well, we will not be around in 100 years... maybe a couple of YN's will still be here... by that time, internet chips will be implanted in brains and a search will be made by thought alone...and this thread will pop up in someone's mind. Cheers, RickO

Okay, this is kind of very cool! A Shanghai Mint employee reading @FredWeinberg's error catalog!

Here is a worker at the Shanghai Mint in China checking out the U.S. errors in my 1983 error coin catalog. My 25-30 year old major mint error catalogs are featured in each issue of Mint Error News Magazine and on minterrornews.com.

Is this particular issue online that we can read today? Is it in Mint Error News? Is this mint worker holding a copy of Mint Error News?

EOC - Yes, that was the first time I went to China,
and the China Mint/Bank of China hosted us -
at one point of the trip we stayed at the same
compound that Nixon stayed at in 1972/3.

This is really cool. I've heard of this trip many times over the years.

What was the impetus for the trip?

Did someone in China reach out to your group? Did someone in your group reach out to the Shanghai Mint?

And, when we went to the Great Wall, I threw
some U.S. Off Center Cents off the Wall (difficult,
due to the wind), wondering what someone in
100 years or so would think when they found 'em
at the base of the Wall !

With how many people there are there, I don't think coins are still there ;)

We went with Martin Weiss who had founded Panda America-
I gave a talk and showed photos and videos at a FUN show seminar six or seven years ago – that should be online.

Due to how tall the Great Wall of China is I guarantee you those coins are still there, because you don’t walk around the base of the wall where we were, and where I threw the coins over the wall. We will be found someplace in the future when work is done to repair that particular section of the great wall base.

Ah. PandaAmerica is an amazing company. Their website let you see coins that weren't generally cataloged anywhere else online, and they have good photos too.

How many people went? Do you have any group photos of the trip?

I just looked up Marty again to find the medal the Shanghai Mint issued for him and was sad to learn he passed away last year.
