Submission Grading Queue

I wonder if it would be smart to display a submissions progress in a the grading step as a queue number? I would think it could help form a customer perspective.. also help them from a resource perspective? it just sits in grading for so long and you know it does not take that long to grade a coin.. Your submission is 100 of 80000 pending grading..?

It would help set realistic expectations. However, more information does not always lead to fewer customer service calls. The extra data may only give people more reasons to call and inquire or complain.
I prefer that they invest time and energy into getting rid of queues rather than finding ways to make it easier to live with.

There may be times when doing them out of order makes sense
I’m not aware of how many graders there are, but order flow can be grader dependent. I’d imaging a lot of proof ASE will go through faster with one grader and if another has an equal number of classic comm they could slow down orders behind it
It would be interesting to hear how many open orders they have any one day.
I’m just confused that my economy submission came back and my regular sent in the same package is still in “grading”. Just saying…….
A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.
A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
Also a raw number does not indicate how many are in each service level
I think I’d rather guess than seeing there were 80,000 ahead of me.

My regular grading service submittal 5 coins now at 60 calendar days!!
And I am on expedite. They said 100's to 1000's ahead of me!! Whoa!
Maybe I will see them next year 90 days out or maybe never.
My NGC grading submittal same time put in took 30 days!!
PCGS seems to have problems. Are their resources going to Baseball cards???
Those wouldn't be graded by the same groups. PCGS/NGC have modern and vintage graders separately. Separate teams.

NGC has been recruiting/hiring graders all year long, probably still have openings posted. I haven't seen the same for PCGS. Might be time for them to crack the piggybank open and add a handful of graders to their teams.
Just looked... PCGS isn't hiring any graders right now.
NGC;

NGC was also definitely hiring for Vintage US earlier this year, I saw openings twice.

Patience seems to be an uncommon virtue among coin collectors
