My first Morgan VAM. My Coin will be featured on YouTube again!

Hi guys,
I thought I'd focus on something else than the Peace Dollars! Well, I cherry picked this very awesome VAM. It's in the top 40 too. Its the

"Lava Wing". Check it out guys. Thanks ;)

    That doesn't look like the Lava Wing...

    Here's a general tip for you, Joey - always confirm your cherrypicks with more than one pickup point.

    In this case, you goofed on the wing, which does not match the Lava Wing. Had you checked for the other pickup points (such as mint mark placement and the eye spikes on the obverse) you likely would have caught your mistake before making a purchase.

    On the bright side, at least you have a pretty coin in a TPG holder (I hope you haven't cracked it!).

    Hi buddy. I really think you should leave it alone. The obverse is not going to be looked on positively. Seems like they are strict with 64 ..and up. I wonder if it turned a little after slabbing. Sure is a nice coin but maybe not this one. As always I enjoy your adventures and appreciate the fact you welcome opinions and provide a thoughtful platform for discussion 😉

    First, a clarification - keep in mind that VamWorld uses the name "Lava Wing" only for VAM 50, while PCGS uses the name for VAM 50, VAM 76, and VAM 81. Your photos don't look like any of these.

    Another giveaway that your attribution is incorrect - your coin has a broken "R" in "TRUST", while all of the above VAMS have an unbroken "R".

    @joeykoins The VAM universe encompasses all Morgan and Peace dollars. I bet you'll have fun researching a VAM using the system created by Van Allen and Mallis. Each VAM has a series of markers to confirm any particular one. Vamworld study is worth the effort IMO. Good luck. Peace Roy

    It could be, but hard to say for sure, based on these photos. It does have clash marks that look similar. Keep in mind that there are multiple doubled ear VAMs for 1888. The one PCGS certifies is VAM 11 (edit: and also Vam 12).

    If it is VAM 11, I'd question whether it is worth sending in for attribution. It sells for a premium in MS66, and once in a while in MS65, but apparently not at lower grades. Looks like VAM 12 is not worth submitting at lower grades, either.

    Yes, technically, it is VAM 11A that is clashed, but PCGS apparently does not attribute clashed and unclashed specimens separately - they call them all VAM 11.

    There are many VAM's that PCGS does not attribute.
    Just because PCGS doesn't attribute it means nothing, it's a 11A according to LVA.
    I understand what you are saying about V11 being the main Vam and 11A is a sub variety of that Vam.
    I was trying to get Joey to do a little more research and maybe learn something in the process.
    Sometimes people learn more or retain it better if they have to find the answer rather than just given it. Teach a man to fish ;)
    No big deal cuz there are tons of coin vids YouTube that have misinformation and people don't research it first.
    That is why I never watch coin vids on YouTube. ;)
