CC Morgan question

Why is there a mark-up for certified GSA dollars compared to non-GSA dollars? Say a plain white specific date GSA at MS65 is $2500, but the same dollar would be at $1750 MS65 slabbed. Why the difference?

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

Because some people are doing sets GSA only. Supply and Demand...

@DelawareDoons Negative Sir. There are only 30 registered sets for GSA only Morgans, vs almost 600 sets for collectors who just collect CC Morgans. That's like 5% of Morgan collectors who are only interested in GSA only. Definitely not a supply/demand imbalance.

Edit: DelawareDoons was correct. Looks like there is a huge NGC GSA collector base vs PCGS

The figures you quote are consistent with the supply and demand explanation.
Even if the number of collectors for a series is fairly small, the prices can still be high if there are relatively few available coins. Example: $4 Stellas.

Additionally, there are many collectors who don’t register their coins/sets, so looking at those figures doesn’t tell the whole story.

🤔Correct. More who do not register their sets by a large margin.

The PCGS registry for CC GSA's is kind of dead, they were years behind NGC keeping them in the original holders. Wholesalers will pay no premium for most PCGS GSA's over the slabbed price, whereas most also pay very solid premiums for NGC graded ones.

345 sets, CC GSA only. Mine would be somewhere in there too, but it is private so it is not listed. I've placed multiple 66's and up with individuals doing NGC sets that aren't in the registry as well. Would you like to take back your LOL reaction and apologize?

My CC Morgan set is not registered.... I have GSA coins, slabbed coins and one or two are raw. That's the way I like it ... uh huh, uh huh... And that is the way I will keep it. Cheers, RickO

What's the population of GSA and non-GSA. This is only half an argument, or less. Even if the registry sets reflect all collectors, 20x non-GSA is only the demand side. If there is a supply of 40x non-GSA then you still have a supply/demand imbalance.

@DelawareDoons Ok touché Sir, I take back the LOL. Did not expect NGC to have that kind of GSA participation. You were right
