Combined Submissions

I have 2 submissions that both went into QA today. Is it possible to save a little time and money by having PCGS put them into the same return box or is that a bridge too far?

I disagree. I suggest you do as I have done, and call Customer Service. Give them both submission numbers and both order numbers, and ask them to make notes to ship them back to you in the same box. No guarantee, but I’ve done it successfully!

    Wow.

I’ve failed. In fact I was told they can’t do it because that’s what the order says.

I tried to have separate orders shipped back at the same time. Customer service said that it is not possible due to a potential logistical nightmare...something along those lines, not verbatim. But it does not hurt to ask.

This is the season for gifts and dreams to come true, so...

    When in doubt, don't.

Not saying that it has not happened in the past, but the current FAQ's say:

"May I request multiple orders mail together upon completion?

No. While you may send us more than one submission at a time in the same box, PCGS will return each order individually."

A nightmare that I think has been overcome ATS. Nevertheless, I assume that the ability to do this would require the addition of a large, secure storage space to buffer partial return shipments. If such a space isn't available, there's your nightmare.

What I don't know is if there's even the desire to even try to figure out how to do this, since it's been requested for a Very Long Time.

No doubt it could be done, however extra handling involves extra costs. Is there enough of a desire to pay more to cover those costs to make figuring it out practical?

It could be figured out the amount of space they'd need and additional manpower needed based on how many multiple invoice submissions are "in flight" at any given time and how big they are. From this, they could figure out their cost per buffered invoice assuming all submitters would want their multi-invoice packaged handled this way. It may be that their cost would be more than anyone would be willing to pay, even if everyone did this.

The same calculations could be made on submissions totaling no more than one box of 20. Space would be less and logistics would be simpler with there being only one box per submission being used as a buffer. Manpower would also be lower.

Of course, this is really all a moo point, since it ain't gonna happen, anyway.

It would, if the TPGs thought it was financially practical. I'd bet they've already run the numbers and are convinced people wouldn't be willing to pay what it would cost to do.

Bridge too far,,,,,, just because they both went into QC doesn't mean they will be done close together. I had an order in QC for 2 weeks,,,,, then a 2nd order went in to QC,,,,, the 2nd order shipped 3 days later. The 1st order is still in QC and going on week #4. When orders are complete they want to ship them and get them out of the way. To hold completed orders waiting on others would be a storage nightmare and a bookkeeping nightmare.

Then how long do we wait to combine shipments, etc., etc., etc.

You can combine as many submissions as you want in one package sending them in but I don't think you will get them to combine them sending them back. Too much of a hassle for PCGS to keep track of.
