PCGS Slabbed 2021 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars

I'm seeing the subject dollars for sale from various dealers online. They are either labeled as "First Strike" or "First Day of Issue" with the 1st day of issue priced a tad higher. As you well know they were sold out within minutes. I assume there is a valid reason for the difference in the labeling but can't seem to find the explanation on the PCGS website. Probably can assume the "First Day of Issue" is worth more. Can anyone explain this?

First day of issue is available to dealers only and requires some logistical gymnastics. First strike etc is available to the average collector and gives nearly 30 days to deliver to the grading services. Welcome, I hope this helps 😉
Also fdoi coins command a premium.

    Welcome. :)

First Strike - coins shipped to PCGS within the first 30 days of release, or delivered to PCGS in sealed Mint boxes with a 'postmark/packing slip' within the first 30 days of release. Reference

FDoI - coins delivered to PCGS on the release date, or sent in packages postmarked on the release date. Reference from 2007.

Advanced Release - select dealers get early access to certain releases via the ABPP. Example.

Forgot about the advance release. Ya those are double the cost. Maybe more.
Interesting opportunity for those who collect that type of thing. I do have some fdoi that I got on eBay at auction. Little luck and that’s where your discount may appear, chance to get em at first strike or first release/early release prices . 🤠

Wait a few months , there likely be plenty at good prices. Especially the Morgan’s if you arent set on a particular mint mark or type of PCGS label

It doesn't matter unless you are a label collector. Coins are the same.

It is really a perception thing... and if one understands the minting process, it simply is a matter of shipping time, not minting time. I do not collect labels, though I appreciate the label in my slabs which grants authenticity and grade. Probably a couple of Mint employees have a few 'first strikes'.... those would be the only ones I would grant credibility...and they could be faked with no one being the wiser. Cheers, RickO
