The Most Beautiful Double Eagle - GTG (Revealed)

Of course everyone knows I’m talk about the Saint Gauden’s, copied but never duplicate. It’s one of my favorites, so much so that I dragged my wife to the Saint Gauden’s Museum in New Hampshire a few years ago. I finally picked up a piece. Give a shot at the grade (same coin photograph from different angles). It's got a CAC sticker.

Around AU -58...I still remember going to Saint Gauden’s home ,studio's and gardens in NH ,35+- years ago
. It was part of the ANA summer seminar one year. It is well worth the visit
BTW, it's got a CAC sticker.

Viewing on a different monitor, I see more wear and was too generous with my guess. I agree with the AU55 crowd.

This thread’s title fooled me badly. With no disrespect to the OP’s coin, while the Saint Gaudens double eagle might very well be the “most beautiful double eagle”, the coin, itself, clearly isn’t.😉

Oh, that was one to the gut Mark. I think I'm down for the count.
It looks better in hand...lol.
I know you well enough to be confident that you’re never down for the count.
But just to test that...I sure hope it looks better in hand.😈

So the spread of grades was AU-50 to MS-63+ and the actual grade was

Much like my 95 year-old Grandma, it's seen better days & looked nicer when it was less circulated & fresh.
I could say the same about my father-in-law who is 93. He is worn but living history, weather by the years he worked hard to support a wife and six kids. He has a story to tell.
Of course everyone would like to own a pristine Saint Gauden’s if the budget allowed. This one while somewhat worn still has some luster, no major hits and in hand absent magnification is a decent looking coin.
Since nothing I own is the best of the best i try to balance my coin budget (with tremendous help from my wife) by getting examples of various coins that have most of the details, no major distracting marks and some luster. I've seen many 62 and 63 coins with less eye appeal that in my mind don’t justify the price just to get the MS in the grade.
Thanks to all that participated, even you Mark. It took an hour or so but I'm now standing upright.
Ha! I was right, circulated! I love these threads and the wild variation in expert guesses.
Makes me more appreciate my under appreciated bullion.
Does raise an interesting question though. Does a green sticker really add significant value to a coin such as this (a generic Saint? or is 1915 a special year?) graded AU53 or below?
I'm guessing that whoever submitted this coin to be bean factory was hoping to get a gold bean. It is a very nice coin for an AU53.

Not in this case. I got it for below any price realized in any recent auction I found even with buyers fee and shipping (under $2,200).
I like gold, especially big St. Gaudens gold coins.... I would have guessed 55.... but not surprised at 53. Cheers, RickO
Me too, common 55 or a premium 53 for sure
