What do you guys think is going on with my $5 Indian ?

I really liked the heavy frosted look and I was interested to see what was going on with the obverse stars 1 to 4 and star 6 and Indians eye. I thought it was clashed dies at first but since the die had just been worked on to make the frost so heavy now I think it strike through from a wire or two from a polishing tool.

Sorry but from your photo it's hard to tell if it's a strike through or PMD.

I'm focused on the incuse line ending at the K7 and K9 stars. Planchet surface defect? Can you zoom in on those points? I'll wait for others to speak up. Peace Roy

Is it raw or is it certified? First question that always pops up with Indian Heads are whether its genuine or not.

Guess I should have mentioned. You might not agree with NGC grades, me too but they’re pretty good at counterfeits or knowing if they are looking at a scratch, it didn’t happen after the coin was struck. I’m sorry I’m not able to take close ups that large photo is as close as I get.

Looks like a thread or wire strike through. Very nice coin with good color and original surfaces.

My first impression was a clashed die... but upon examination, I really cannot match it up with the reverse... So perhaps die polish or strike through. Nice coin... I have an '09D as well. Cheers, RickO

I'm thinking struck through as well... odd though, when I first looked at the image in the OP, I couldn't tell right away if the spot on the obverse was incused (struck through) or raised (as struck)... optical illusion...
