Ever been to one of "those" dealers?

Gifted with a natural stink-eye.

(OK, it's not a dealer, but Tax Collectors, by Quentin Massys, ca. 1520s.)

I like to deal with dealers who have had professional backgrounds before they got into coins, most enjoy the hobby and that is why they opened up the shop. It's a tough business with constant demands to not undervalue what they are selling, to not overvalue what they are buying.

There used to be a couple of them in the PNW....at shops and shows... Did not deal with them. Cheers, RickO

    Yes a few times😂

This is the exact look my wife gives me when I'm pointing out a die crack on a 200 year-old coin.

    At least she is looking...

I like to avoid those types at all costs and YES I have certainly dealt with them. :D

The painting below from the Louvre in Paris, France is by the same artist and was on a cover of a book about world coins that I received as a child. It definitely sparked my interest and was the Genesis of a lifelong Hobby. It is entitled 'Money changer and his wife'. It's not as menacing and nefarious. :o Ahh yes, Memories....

According to the placard next to the painting at the Getty Museum, Massys' paintings were often a moral commentary on the subjects, and the menacing and nefarious looks of the tax collectors is no exception. Here's a coin that circulated during his youth in Brabant.

And above the gold coin appears to be one of these.

For me to hit 20 dealers that are not pawn shop owners and the like, true B+M
or a large presence in a flea market, I would have to draw a 250 mile radius
    from where I live.
