I'll stop by tomorrow Jon -- a quick hit & run overnighter this time to find some dittys for my bag.
I will stop by Friday. Do you have any W quarters for sale or trade?
Nice and good luck
Gotta love a trailblazer. See you tomorrow. Peace Roy

Great... Daily show reports would be well received. Please include wine selections
Cheers, RickO
Great to see big shows opening up again. Though I wont be there, I love seeing the reports from those who are.
Be safe, everyone

"Coin collecting for outcasts..."
Decent but not overwhelming crowd awaiting public entry to begin for the first day. Beautiful weather at 68 degrees. Just finished lot viewing at Stacks and identified two coins I really liked but don’t think I’ll be able to afford them. Anyone else have that problem? 😉🙄
"Got a flaming heart, can't get my fill"
I'm heading in...

An early report is showing inflation has hit the coin market and dealers/wholesalers are pricing things well above guide prices. In some cases 20% above CDN/CAC/PCGS guide prices for wholesale transactions. I will be interested to hear how people do buying at the show. I wonder if that will cut down on show sales.

One of the primary reasons I did not want to drive eight hours to Baltimore for this show because trends have been showing that prices seem to be steadily going up, plus have an upcoming road trip next month to NY and CT for the Christmas holidays.

Makes sense. If wholesalers have prices above guide imagine what price will be put out to the public. I think there will be some sticker shock for sure. For fun I went to the PCGS Gold coin price guide. It's green everywhere. UP, UP, UP.....

I read the same observation in Gerry Fortin's blog this morning from Baltimore. He said "We bought what we could and left a host of great CAC approved coins behind due to asking prices well above the guide". Looks like the market will be even tougher than what we've seen so far those looking to buy "solid" coins.

Now listen boy, I'm tryin' to teach you sumthin' . . . . that ain't no optical illusion, it only looks like an optical illusion.
My mind reader refuses to charge me....
I've been here for just over an hour... yes, prices for the coins I'm looking for seem to be at `20% or better over PCGS guide...
That said, there are still deals to be made... you really need to be patient though...

How are the "BUY" prices for Silver coins like nice "Walkers"? just wondering what they are like..20% over also or 20X face.
Looks like a lot of dealers buying, but I'm not sure how strong their prices are... I'm not selling! ;-)
Well... it looks like the first table I went to garnered my coin buying dough for the day. I managed a nice Draped Bust 1/2 Cent for the Type set, thus completing my run of Early Copper Type for my album. I'll post a GTG later on. I also picked up an 1832 LC for my Middle Date Set. Big thanks to Tom Reynolds...
I stopped by JJ Teaparty, but they didn't have the Type I was looking for (20-Cent (AU); or Trade $ (AU))... lots of Unc Merc Dimes if you're so inclined. I stopped by Charmy's table (aka The Penny Lady) looking for an 1859 IHC... the last piece for my Small Cent Type Set... but there were at least 3 other customers spread out and doing business... ditto at Liz's Table. I stopped by Gerry Fortin's to look at Trade Dollars, but nothing down in my pedestrian price range... ;-) He did have some beautiful low MS pieces though...
FWIW... this is the first time I've had to stand in a line at noon to get in. I've seen the Baltimore Show busier, but it's just the first day and there seemed to be a lot of deals being made in spite of higher prices....
Enjoy!!

Be curious if buy prices reflect sale price increases.
Looks like a good time to be a seller, not so much a buyer.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Agree, but then sellers, if they are dealers, also become buyers to replace what they have sold.
Prices are high and higher.
Sounds no different than every other big show I’ve been to.
I was thinking of advantages of going such as getting coins graded more quickly by PCGS/NGC, etc., but decided with all the traffic problems I've seen worsening and with all the other challenges, it would be just too stressful but you have to hand it to the dealers set up showing a lot of determination and willingness to operate under adverse circumstances.
It seems pretty likely that sales volume would be affected but profits could actually be up for dealers if they move 'older' inventory purchased at lower prices.
From the buyer side, I can see that average joe might simply have a smaller coin budget given recent increases in food, gas, etc.; not to mention needing to hold back a little for things like potential high heating fuel costs on the horizon.
Personally, I won't be inclined to buy at these advanced prices in the near term - to be sustainable it needs to become more ubiquitously obvious across the board that is is not just a flash in the pan, e.g., the pattern follows for various online purchase venues such as auctions, etc.
