I inherited this coin in a key chain that was my grand fathers who died in 1976 at 77 years old. My father kept it in a small jewelry box for me until he died in 2016. My understanding is this coin is very rare and appears in good condition and simply pops in and out of the key chain. How would I authenticate and have its value assest ?

Post a picture if you can. There is a 99.999% chance that it's simply a 1922 Peace dollar, of which over 50 million were struck.
We should be able to tell with an image if it's worth your time submitting to our hosts here (PCGS) or one of the other certification services.

And while you are handling this (or any other collectable coin), try only to hold it by the edges, so that nothing touches the front or back of the coin. And never try to clean it!
Atill trying to figure out how to transfer pics from gallery to here i hate technology

As mentioned, please do not get your hopes up. We have many folks come here each week with a coin they think is rare and/or valuable, only to find out they are common, common, common and worth very little. Yours is almost assuredly another example of that.

1922 High Relief Peace dollars were melted and only a handful of Proofs were spared. I can't recall if any of the business strikes escaped the melting pot............

but even so, might be worth at least $25.
Gotta look like the above. Not mine, of course.
