Hey everyone! I just joined yesterday hoping to get some help with my grandfather's collection I inherited! He has thousands of old 80's and 90's wax cards I went through and in the first binder I found 26 Griffey Jr. rookie cards! I'm hoping the luck continues but does anyone know what I should do right now with PSA being down to get these graded? My grandma is tired of them sitting on the shelf so I'd love some help if anyone knows how I can get some of this collection graded and sold! Thanks!

Sorry to hear of your grandfather’s passing.
First off, we will need some pics to see if they are worth grading. The range of 80’s to 90’s may mean junk wax, so don’t be surprised if what you have is not all you may think. But yes, pics will be needed.
Chances are that they are not worth grading at the current open PSA levels. Lower cost PSA grading options should open in the future. Keeping them raw is a good option too if you are not planning to sell.

Thank you for the condolences I can send pictures but I went through every binder a couple weeks ago and made a list of cards that seemed worth grading. I know for a fact he had one of the white bordered Griffey rookie cards that your profile picture is as well as 29 of the black borders. He had 5 Jeter Upper Deck 1973 Foil cards which I know can be worth a lot at the right grade but only 3 looked wort grading. He also had one Rickey Henderson 1980 rookie which I know people look for!
I agree with NGS428...I would suggest waiting until PSA reintroduces the lower cost options. Unless you think you have some really high end grades and high value cards. In those cases, post the images here in the forum and people will be happy to give you their guess on the grades. If the grades look to be good enough, and the value high enough, go ahead and submit.
Awesome! I've got the Jeter cards at home and one at a grade 10 sold for $492,000 this year! I'm hoping that out of the 5 at least one is worth the effort.
Grandma Jenny by any chanch? Please post photos.
I'll be home around 3:45 so stay tuned! Trying to get pictures for y'all haha thank you everyone for helping with this!
Definitely post pics first. Many new graders don't realize how strict PSA is. We get a lot of people on here thinking their card will grade an 8, 9, or 10. And when they post pics, it's actually more of a 3, 4, or 5.

The Jeter is probably like a PSA 6. I would just sell the collection as is. I don’t see a reason to spend $1,000’s on grading…

I agree. I would sell the cards as is. You can put it all up on ebay in one big auction, or break it down into smaller pieces.

Darn I excepted them to be better but that's why I came here! Thanks for the info and appreciating the collection! This is one of 51 binders so I've got some stuff to go back through haha.
That is a GREAT group of cards that anyone would be proud to own.
Like I typically say, if you examine the card very closely with the naked eye and see virtually no defects whatsoever, you may have a PSA 9. In order for it to be a 10 candidate, it has to look virtually flawless under 10x magnification. If we can easily see defects in your card online, then it certainly isn't a 9 or 10. That's why 10's are so expensive. Most cards in 1993 didn't come out of the pack as a 10.

That makes sense. Thank you guys for everything!
I don’t know if you have any $400,000 cards in there but I would certainly say some of those would be worth grading. Those Upper Deck SP cards could bring a few hundred dollars each if they just get an 8. I wouldn’t submit them at current prices but if you can hold onto them for 6 months to a year you might be able to get them in at bulk prices. You need to try to get really familiar with what cards look like at a certain grade to give yourself an idea of how they grade. It’s going to take a lot of time and research but it should be worth it because it sounds like you may have some good stuff there. Certainly don’t do what most first timers do and just send everything. Do your research and be strict with your own opinion of what you think a card might grade.
Good luck!
Welcome. Thanks for sharing and that is a nice lot of Jeter cards. You definitely have cards to submit, but be realistic with the grades. Like others have stated, hold off on submitting at the current fees. There's not enough juice to squeeze. You may have to wait until late 2022 or 2023 for a reasonable bulk special. If you don't own any PSA slabs, I would suggest buying a few PSA slabs to get yourself educated on what the grading criteria looks like in hand. Also, if you are close to a local show, do attend.
DANG! Get those SPs into some proper card savers... great collection there!
Thank you for all the help and ideas! Also, I will @jeffcbay hahaha had to move them from the binder to get better pictures
