Recent new life for old designs

With the Morgan/Peace dollars getting new life from the Mint, following the revival of the Winged Liberty for the palladium eagle, and use of the St. Gaudens, Walking Liberty and Buffalo over the past few decades. What other classic designs you would like to see used again by the Mint? Even if it's a one year issue? I would like to see this James B. Longacre classic used again. Maybe with a W mint mark.

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

While I like the classic designs (a lot) I think it better serves the designs to remain classics.
    Let sleeping coins sleep.
The newer renditions lose their charm and appeal in the updated versions.
    Just my opinion.

Like classic movies don't need to be remade- classic coins should be left alone.

I wouldn't mind a modern date series of Large Cents, with the caveat that they are produced exactly the same way as they had been originally.

Or bring back the half dime. From an economic point of view, the half dime shouldn't cost more than 2 to 3 cents to produce, whereas the nickel continues to be produced at a loss.

The half dime was made of 900 fine silver which costs considerably more than the copper nickel ally used in the nickel.

Surely, surely somewhere there is an artist capable of producing a new inspiring design.

  • Would love to see this design on a coin.

I was eight years old when the SBA first came out, and remember even then thinking what an ugly choice compared to what could have been.

Well, maybe a bit better considering the planchet flaws and such. Although hand carved dies would be pretty awesome. Worth a premium.

I am hoping for a clad half dime. A silver version would be great for sets however.

I would like to see new designs, real art, reflecting American history (significant events, achievements, etc.). I have had enough of the commercialism. uninspiring designs and political promotions over the last decade or two. Cheers, RickO

Ah memories - I remember the SBA came out when I was a kid also, and the day they were released I got some in Framingham and the sold them to the kids in the neighbourhood for $2 each. I also thought it was a butt ugly design, I liked my pocket peace dollar so much better.

I dispute the idea that new life has been given to the Morgan and Peace dollars. It's more like the walking dead...LOL.
