CoinX Show Report

I left home for the CoinX show in St. Charles, Missouri early Wednesday morning. After a quick stop at the Hardee's drive thru for breakfast I was on the way. It was not a pleasant drive this time. I got stuck in rush hour traffic, several one lane road construction projects, a rough road and a lot of tractor trailer trucks that wanted to ride beside each other. I finally arrived at my hotel in St Charles in late afternoon.
On Thursday morning I arrived at the show about 10 minutes after it had opened. The St Charles Convention Center is a very nice facility with plenty of free parking. I started by going up the center aisle. I saw one dealer that had a number of GSA Silver Dollars at $380 and another that had a large group at $400. I took a look at an 1816 Large Cent in PCGS AU 58. It had super clean surfaces and great luster. It was priced at over twice PCGS and all other price guides. It was a super coin that had been raw in a collection since the 1970's. I would like to own the coin but could not pull the trigger at that price. I might see the same dealer at another show in a few weeks and will take another look.
I looked at a 1793 Liberty Cap Large Cent in PCGS G-4 with a CAC sticker. All legends were clear and it had nice surfaces. It is probably the best one that is in a 4 holder. It was priced very aggressively at $19,000. I just could not see paying that price since a 12 and a 15 coin have sold recently for a little less that $25,000.
I saw a beautiful 1858 $2 1/2 Gold piece with super color in PCGS AU 58. I asked to see it. It was an early strike with die polish lines very clear especially on the obverse. It had super luster. I did not need the coin and was not looking for that type of coin. I thought that I would purchase the coin if it was reasonable or even if it was not. I then turned the coin over to look at the reverse. It had a long and deep scratch above the Eagle's head. I sunk. As Herman would say " Darn. darn, darn ".
I saw a Reeded Edge slug in PCGS 25 and one in 53. There were not many quality coins at this show as I have seen in the past. There were lots of raw coins.
I did not get any bullion prices. Sorry Ricko.
The concession stand had a fairly good selection of food. Hot Dogs were priced at $6 and Soft Drinks were priced at $4.
After not finding anything I went out for Chinese for a late lunch. It was not very good this time.
Friday morning I had a late breakfast with my cousins. After that I drove 2 hours to see other cousins that live on a farm. I drove back to St Charles in time for the auction. I was successful at the auction.
Saturday morning I drove home. I enjoyed myself at the show and got to visit with some cousins. It does not get much better than that!

Hot Dogs were priced at $6 and Soft Drinks were priced at $4 - wow that's inflation!!!
and GSA CC at $400? Yikes!
The $6 and $4 are a lot cheaper than they were at the ANA.
I heard the auction prices were strong across the board, would you agree?
I was blown out of the water on the doily bust halves.
"It's like God, Family, Country, except Sticker, Plastic, Coin."
Do the hot dogs come with a sticker? At that price they should.
Thanks for the report.
Yes, it is frustrating to find a coin you really like…. But then find out the dealer apparently likes it even more than you do!
Lots of untoned Morgans, unfortunately for me

I been set up at a show before and been hungry, you ll pay the 6 bucks trust me, especially if you cant leave to get something.
@golden...Thank you for your show report.... Looks like inflation has hit the show circuit according to the prices you quoted, especially for the GSA dollars - and the hot dogs/soft drinks. I hope they had Grey Poupon to go with the dogs.
Cheers, RickO
