The Registry is a powerful drug

I shifted collecting focus to Presidential inauguration tickets. For some reason Coolidge and Harding tickets are pretty rare and never come up for sale. A Harding ticket was recently listed with two Grant tickets. I was expecting the Harding ticket to go for about 300 and the lot went for over 5k. There isn’t really a psa registry for this but I assume that other people needed the same ticket for their collection. What are some other examples of crazy prices driven by the registry

That is what the registry does (among other things, many good). Examples are everywhere.

2005 Topps Total Matt Light RC (with Dan Koppen and Steve Neal) PSA 10 just sold for $97 + shipping, which was about 3x the previous sale. For a freakin Topps Total card of freakin O linemen. This is absolutely driven by the registry, as it’s Light RC and he’s in several Patriots greats themed registry sets. A secondary factor would be that Neal was a NCAA champion wrestler and wrestling fans might want the card. I know $100 isn’t the same as $5K, but it still seems like a lot for a card of “big uglies” from an unpopular set, especially given the previous sales of the same card in the same grade.

I paid too much for this, Chad, and I will almost certainly never make it back:

    Registry driven, for sure.

    Worth it…

…for the first and only complete set in PSA slabs. It was an auction so someone else wanted it and they never surface. 😃

Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?

Yes the registry is pure poison. We are all addicted. I have overpaid just to get a card.
However, in the last 3 years there was a few that are low pop and always seem to be off in the grade I want (centering and print defects). I thought the asking price was outrageous !!!! They sold. Nothing has shown up since.

Now I feel the opposite. Time travel back....I'm buying.

The registry made me buy a 93 SP Jeter.

I hate Jeter. And I don’t like SP. 1993 was a good year though.

The most obvious example is everybody's favorite player from the 1986 Fleer Basketball set ......
