Found this coin and I have a chance to buy it, but cautious about counterfeit versions. Your thoughts are appreciated.

It looks genuine but also nearly, if not, environmentally damaged.

So it may get a Details type of grade….but if not environmentally damaged what would be your opinion of a grade? I am guessing 12 to 15….

The rim bumps might hurt it a little. I'm seeing good to very good details. Maybe some of the loss of reverse stars and motto lettering is strike-related, but there's very little detail left in those regions.

Genuine, problem free, and very attractive/eye appealing with a strong circulation cameo.

I don't see anything that would warrant a details grade, if you can get a good price on it it's 100% worth it IMO. Truly high quality but still affordable type piece. I'm leaning F-12 on this one.

My guess is VG10, (outside) shot F12.

Looks real. VG 10 is about right.

VG10 IMO also, it is a touch dark, I have had some over the years come back with enviornmental when they are dark like that

It would make an excellent album coin. If the price is right I'd go for it. You may be able to use the fact that it is raw as a bargaining point. I don't know if the major TPGs would straight grade it or not but I actually like the look of the coin.

Genuine. It is the BB-120/B-12 in the terminal die state.

Here is the coinfacts page for that die pair. Bowers says the terminal stage is very rare. I think that is a bit of an overestimation. You can find one now and then.

Hmmm, show me a graded Bust Dollar that isn't net graded in G-6 holder with that much meat on it. Perhaps you meant VG-F Details?

It appears authentic, and would grade as above suggested. If the price is right, for a raw coin, I would jump on it. Cheers, RickO

Yeah price is everything on this as it may very well end up in a details holder, but not for any rim issues. Since not everyone can afford a problem free silver dollar which circulated while George Washington was President there is a buyer market for these.

Washington was president from 1789 to 1797 so he was a former president when this coin was minted but he may have carried and used this coin since he lived until Dec 14, 1799 which is very cool to contemplate. B)
